    hey guys

    went to go for a ride last night and my bike wouldn't idle properly, i kept reving it, then i could smell lots of fuel, i looked down and there is fuel comming out of my crank case breather, wtf, i looked into my oil window and i think there is fuel there too, but i will confirm that tonight

    any ideas? im somewhat concerned.

    I love my fzr but it seems be be one problem after another. im seriously looking at other options now.

    Just a guess - one of the carbs has a faulty float valve and is overfilling the float bowl and you're getting overflow out the carb overflow drain tube which comes out near the bottom of the rear shock..

    I have my fingers crossed for you anyway. There is no way fuel would get in to the crankcase in that quantity. Even if you had a hole in a piston it would be blowing smoke big time.

    Yep thats not good. Possible bearing and cylinder wear/failure. Hopefully you have not done any damage........ <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt=":shock:" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->

    As i said earlier one of the carbs has a faulty float valve and is overfilling the float bowl and overnight it has flooded the cylinder, weeping past the piston rings and filling the sump. That would also explain why its not idling very well.

    Just a matter of finding which carb is at fault. Turn the fuel tap off overnight for now.

    Put a clear plastic tube on each carb, one at a time. View this post for details
    <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?t=1487">http://fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?t=1487</a><!-- m --> but you might not need to pull the carbs out to test, not sure though. It is probably just a bit of dirt stuck in float valve seat. If you can find the offending carb you can unscrew the float valve seat out from the bottom after removing the float bowl. I hope I am not telling something you already know?

    MICK - I just remembered you had issues starting where I mentioned carb flooding.
    <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?t=3030">http://fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?t=3030</a><!-- m -->

    I should have remembered that a bit earlier. I take it you did not look in to it any further???

    Hi dave

    that problem sorta just went away.. i know things just dont "sorta go away" but it stopped happening, but now im just hoping its a flooding issue causing this.

    Im going to check my carbies today and make sure there is nothing amiss, get new oil, and try again

    It didn't go away - it's the same problem but gotten worse, that was the point I was trying to make.

    Hope you sort it soon.

    Reminds me of my younger days. I had a '63 holden EJ and after a hi speed run the big ends started knocking. Cleaned up the big ends and put a new set of shells in and about a week later same result. Bought a repco reconditioned short motor and installed. Not long after same thing <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( --> Pulling the motor out and some-one noticed petrol in the sump <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( --> <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( --> Found problem was mechanical fuel pump had a hole in the diaphram and was seeping in to the sump. The pump was mounted on the side of the crankcase and was driven off the camshaft with a rocking lever that went thru the side of the crankcase. <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( --> <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( --> <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->

    This time I put in a 186 from a later model with another newer fuel pump <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    Gotta love old school cars. EJ, Nice

    I stripped my carbies, tripple checked them, got new oil filter and oil, Castrol 4T 15w-50 *Sigh*. Bit cheaper option.

    I did notice my fuel tap was leaking too.

    So time to start from the beginning.. got a new tap, 2nd hand fuel pump (as i perviously didnt have one) oil filter, oil and see how i go.

    Hoping thats where the problem lies. other than that i may have to look a bit deeper

    Not looking good

    done the oil filter and oil, put my carbies back on and tried to start it
    and its blowing so much white smoke its not funny, it didnt even blow that much smoke when the sump was full of fuel, but that also more or less the cause of nows problem im guessing.

    might of done my rings.. or more.. damn it

    Does the smoke go away when it warms up <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> - or does it get worse <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->

    I doubt that it will do any more damage now that you have put in some good oil. If it stuffs up completely there is nothing that you could do that would have prevented that from happening anyway. take it for a 10 minute and see if it is still bad..

    PS: Heavier oil may help the smoking if it persists

    Took the bike for a ride, smoke cleared up, there wasnt much when i started the bike today.

    Goes alot better than it did before and gets up and dances better too but i did notice when its sitting and idleing it gets hot very quickly and the hotter it gets the more the idle speed goes up, it didnt do this before. any idea's?

    Thats promising Mick. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    Mine used to idle faster when it warmed up too. Hard to say what the answer is.
