just wondering does my bike need a fuel pump? if so wat for and is this the reason it wont start cold i have to tip some fuel through the air box and down the carb to get it started it runs sweet but yer wont idle under 3500rmp and yer you will give her a good squirt and let the revs drop and they just drop out and stalls only sometimes but yer it will idle the 2 minsutes later it will drop and dies? any help would be sweet i was thinking maybe valve clearence? if so how do i do this?

Unless the tank is over half full you need the fuel pump as the bottom of the tank is lower than the carbs.

    Not on the 3ln.

    Do you use the choke?

Just get a fuel pump, the importers chuck them out rather than cleaning them out or replacing them and adjust the carbs to suit. Its a half arsed way of doing things and will lead to problems.

    yes and no

it doesn't really matter about ther choke it still don't start it will like half ass fire with it on but yer the only way to start her is to tip fuel down the carbs and hold her flat out while cranking her till she goes vvvvvvvvrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmm and yer shes going after that she will start fine but just picks different idle levels like majority of the time it will be at the 3000k-3500k mark but yer will drop out sometime just loses revs and dies unless you pick her back up not sure on these bloody four strokes bit different to the old two banger motox but yer figuring it out slowly. cheers anyhelp with the problems would be sweet...

    Cheers GUY.

the rough idling might be solved by balancing the carbs.

Might help a bit with the cold starting, too.

Otherwise maybe clean the carbs, and if you're feeling adventurous, check the valve clearances (that'd be a good way to dive into the 4-stroke world :p)

My bike starts a whole lot easier now after doing valve clearances, and idles a lot better after balancing the carbs.

Clean the carbs!!!. I will put money on the fact that somewhere along the line someone left fuel in the carbs for an extended period. The slow speed circuit on these carbs has very small passages that varnish up easily. It sounds like your engine will only run on the main jet. I just got done doing mine, and three out of the four carbs were fouled.

Actually there are three jets in the area you are talking about. inside of a recess is the pilot jet. It and the channel that it feeds are EXTREMELY small. This is probably your problem as the pilot jet is the main piece of your slow speed circuit. take out the screw that holds the jets to the emulsifier tube (thing the jet needle rides in), remove the cast piece that holds the jets, remove the rubber seal, and soak the whole thing over night in carb cleaner.
