Been riding daily lately and the bike has been alright. I'm currently stuck on the side of the road with a bike that won't seem to hold idle. I was riding down hill and there was a bit of a bog that didn't sound too flash so I pulled over and the bike conked out. I can start the bike and hold revs with the throttle or choke but as soon as I let off with either it just dies. Bloody great. Would water in the tank cause this? It's been raining a bit lately, plus a similar thing happened a while ago while cleaning the bike so I dropped the fuel and things seemed better after.

Lol well I sat in the rain, barely containing my joy of this wonderous occasion and after waiting about 10 minutes the bike fired up fine and rode no dramas. /sigh

Filled up at a station for whatever reason/good that would do and made it home.

When revving before it sounded like it dropped a cylinder. But eh this bike reminds me of my first girlfriend, unbloodypredictable.

I'm about to go and buy some beer I think.

Time to open up those carbies. Sounds like a sticky something (diaphragm, needle, float)...

I'm gonna do the carbies again this weekend I reckon. I was riding today in the rain and the bike started to get boggy and slightly backfiring. This happened ages ago after I washed it, again when riding in the wet and again today in the wet. Could be another problem altogether though I'm not sure, too much of a coincidence I think.

Knackered coils would give me this problem in the wet and the bogging when dry (hot). And I also get the feeling of something getting stuck as stu pointed out, I can make it bog on purpose by backing off and rolling on under load, makes me think something gets stuck when I close the throttle and bogs when I open it up again.

That sucks to here about the ex grey! It's almost beer o'clock again!

Also check HT leads - they could be breaking down. You could start the bike in a dark garage to see if there's faint arcing or spray wd40 on them and see if running improves.

Beer is good *cries* so good! But I treat my misses like **** when I am drunk and I have to quit =(.
But realistically a running bike and a misses beats a broken bike, no misses and but having beer right? (I know its hard to choose LOL).

Edwardo, it sounds like your ZXR is running rich and flooding/bogging like our fizzers did before replacing the emulsion tubes and needles in the carbs, along with tuning the pilot screws.

First thing you should do is ensure that the float height is correct, then set the pilot screws to the stock setting. If the carbs have needle clips they should be set to the stock position (for the fizzer's it's the middle clip, there are 5 settings)

New plugs, snip some length off the coil leads and clean the coils as well. You'll be amazed at what a difference this will make

Jets and needles in carbs probably haven't been changed ever (47,xxxkms lol), I am struggling to come up with specific parts such as the emulsion tubes and needles and pilot screws. I found some full sets-

    http://www.motorcyclespareswarehouse.com.au/products/kk-0174ns-carb-repair-and-parts-kit

these include everything: spring, needle, jets, choke, float needle etc. But they are $38 each... x4 errrghhh that's a lot!

I have the floats at 13mm from gasket surface (stock) but I'll probably whack some clear tubing on the bowl and measure it that way too, to be 100% sure. Pilots are out 2.5 turns. I tried tuning them individually by ear listening to revs etc and failed miserably and just got burnt hands lol

I currently reside in Adelaide! :)

What happened in the end @edwardo??

    Same problems for my zr250.
Read my thread about riding in the rain problems.
It was as simple as connecting a hose to the air box that wasn't connected properly for me...
