The only thing I'm a bit sketch on when it comes to that dyno is that his hitting top speed at 160k/ph and if that's in 6th gear (I presume its in 6th) his sprockets must be changed for acceleration which may not have been entered into the dyno's data potentially giving false HP figures. Unless of course that run was done in say 3rd or 4th gear but I believe that wouldn't be common of most dyno places to do???
It could have been in 5th gear, the gearing commander site say's @ 14,500 rpm it would be doing 156.6 km/h ? Peak horsepower (45HP at the engine) of the stock CBR250RR is at 15,000 rpm, and the horsepower drop's off at 155km/h on that dyno printout
The credibility of the dyno is kind of tarnished if it wasn't in 6th or a full gear run in my opinion. Dyno's aren't all that reliable to begin with but to then have such a high figure but it "have" to have been in 5th gear just puts me in a bad mood.
Most dyno operators don't like running the drum too fast - hard on tyres and hard on the drum. If the engine rpm is accurate and the gearing figure is known, it shouldn't matter what gear it's in. That chart with mph is not very informative. RPM gives a much better comparison.
I agree with the method to not damage your dyno but in this case specifically there is a lot of "if's" there which is the problem, along with the thought that that method wouldn't apply to an mc22 if the dyno can handle 600's and 1000's I mean hell the mc22 may as well be a peewee 50 by comparison and running it in 5th to "save the machine" seems redundant.
like don't get me wrong here, I would WANT someone to get an mc22 to run those figures id be like "your a genius" but I can't respect something shrouded in mystery.
I don't think running in top gear means anything to horsepower does it? Why would an engine create more or less power depending on what gear it's in? A Dyno is a static device. It can't replicate changeable atmosphere, G-forces, drag or a coefficient of friction higher than zero. Saying that, a Dyno is the best way to tune your engine. In 6th gear my bike dies at 16,000rpm. It's been designed to do that. I'd have to find a way to stop this inbuilt feature to allow the Dyno operator to take it all the way to the red line. I will put my bike on a Dyno soon to see what power the engine is making and what the stoichiometric reading is for that power. So far, I've enjoyed (mostly) playing around with different things and seeing what results those changes have on the strip. I'm sure a Dyno would have fasttracked the process, but where's the fun in that.
Your not connecting the dots, I know it doesn't matter what gear its in. However in this case it was suspicious due to it being more likely that it was in 6th gear and topped out at 160kph and the sprockets being changed and not added to the dyno's data. The whole thing was suspicious is what I was saying and if Kiffsta thinks its sus then it confirms my suspicion.
