Hey all. I'm Chris. I've been commuting from the outer SE suburbs to work in Melb CBD (100km round trip) on my little R15 for a few months now and just picked up my Zxr250 the other night. Has a couple things I need to do before I get it registered but I'm hoping to use it daily after that. Ive taken it for a cheeky squirt up the street and it's definitely gonna take some getting used to. It's a world away from my EFI Yamaha that just takes a touch of the starter to come to life then gets ridden at full throttle everywhere haha. I've only managed to snap a couple of quick pics of it so far but I'm sure there will be others in time
Thanks for the welcome guys can't wait to get this thing rego'd so I can get out and about. The sound is addictive!
Hi Mate!!!!!!!!!!! zxr250 good choice! But verrrrry different seating position to r15 but 10x the fun!!! =)
Hi all sorry for the late response I've been crazy busy. Thanks for the warm welcomes! I still have the R15 and I enjoy commuting on it a lot more now than before. The seating position is much nicer for a long commute and being able to see out of the mirrors is a plus. The few times I've taken the ZXR to work have been a blast. It's a massive jump from the R15. The carbs have been recently rebuilt which is good and it performs/starts perfectly. Only issue I have is an intermittently slipping clutch. Doesn't seem to be related to load as it'll happily accelerate in 2nd or 3rd all the way to redline without slipping sometimes then other times it'll slip just accelerating in 1st. I thought it was an adjustment issue and have had several attempts at adjusting it and making sure I have free play at the lever (thought it may not have been engaging completely) but this hasn't helped. I'll be pulling it to bits soon to work out what's going on/replace the plates if necessary.
Unsure to be honest. I had it serviced the day I bought it but haven't come round to doing my own service on it. I've done maybe 500km on it since I got it. What's the best oil to use in them?
As long as its motorcycle specific oil as its a wet clutch... usually 10W 40 If it was serviced at a bike shop then u would hope its been done correctly.
(belated) Welcome. I too am in the SE...Oakleigh to be exact. I have a bit of knowledge with the ZXR250A you have, so happy to help if I can. As Grey said, wet clutch needs motorcycle oil ONLY. If you pull the clutch pack you should quickly see if the faces are rooted and a clutch change is in order. Not an expensive exercise and you can change it without too much bother. Don't worry about draining oil etc, just lay the bike on its side and you should be fine. Enjoy.
