Recently purchased a 92 GSF 250 for my daughter and partner to learn to ride. (My usual rides are early Gixxers and a Hayabusa) After trawling the net for details about the machine, I noticed that there were many posts with similar problems, and not many fixes reported.
I got the bike cheap because it wasn't running. I got it running, but like a bag of ****, but with a little bit of sorting, it's now running quite well.
For those interested the item that made the biggest change was replacing the little gaskets under the jet holder thingys. No-one seems to mention these, I made a set from some fluoro-elastomer sheet about 0.6mm thick and punched out the holes neatly and left the old shitty gaskets in there for support. These things below are only about 20mm long. They can be purchased as part of a kit from Thailand. I have ordered some, and will see if they're any good.

Spark plugs.....seems the ignition in these things isn't real powerful, even lightly fouled plugs cause all sorts of dramas. If it wants to start, but wont quite light up, try fresh plugs.
Also, have a good look through the carbs. I found that some twat had re-assembled them with the throttle butterflies backwards, and the idle was poor.

There were also a few bad earths, and the sidestand switch was open circuit. I just removed the interlock relay and put a jumper lead across the pins using wire and some spade connectors.

Also, be careful faultfinding with a multimeter, great tool for checking continuity, but when checking voltage you are better off with an old fashioned test light with a lamp, that way you will know that the circuit can carry at least some load.

You will have no problems with the Litetek seals, but if your going to the trouble of removing the carbs would you not put the whole kit in and have no more problems?

Good to hear. The whole kit will be going in when I get it. Not sure I should mention the name of the establishment that charged the previous owner around $1500 ( a few months ago) to do the shoddy work, but if the rest of their work is the same standard, I could reasonably assume that the carbs weren't really kitted anyway.
