Hello all, just joined this forum after visiting a few times. Lived in country NSW all my life. First bike at age 15, and still playing with them all these years later. Have recently taken the early retirement option so I have all day to play with my bikes. Am a member of the VJMC (Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club) an am restoring old Japanese bikes. My daily ride is a Honda ST1100 and I am a member of the ST owners club (OZSTOC). I have a KR250 and a Yamaha YDS5 to be restored. My partner rides Virago 250. Hope to meet with some of you down the road one day.
Welcome from another retired Tamworthian with too much time (and not enough money) for bikes.....so that one day may be closer than u think Im presently 4437.26 kilometers from home but Im sure we can eventually arrange some time to compare tension wrenches cheers
Hey Murdo Welcome to the forum, nice collection of Bikes there!! I bought a KR250 a while back but it has been stripped down and I searched high and low for a gasket kit which was almost impossible to find, I have heard they are rare as rocking horse poo, although someone is the US is now making head gaskets for them. Would love to see some pics of your KR250 and your XV, maybe post some photos in the Showcase ? thanks Chris
Hey Murdo Welcome to the Forum, love your collection of Bikes. Some are becoming very rare, parts are sometime an issue. Would be most interested to see some photos, again welcome to the forum.
Hey Murdo, Welcome to the Forum! Fairly new myself here but i've found that you'll have plenty of friendly and helpful people on here! Nice bike collection you have there! Welcome
Thanks for the welcome. The shed is a bit full, counted I had 14 bikes in there, only 5 runners at the moment. Give me something to do later.
That's the plan. Have to finish a couple of others first and sell them off to put into the KR. Mostly good but needs a clean up new seals/gaskets and painting. Bought it because it was one of the bikes I wanted when young. A lot of my friends are restoring bikes they had as young fellas to 'relive the dream'. Most that I had I now realise were not that good so now i want the ones I couldn't afford to have then. Will be eligable for historic rego next year, so plan to get it on road sometime in '14.
Historic is 30 yrs? ...does that limit its usage? Does it run?......what is "parts" availability like?
Historic is 30yrs. A bit limiting in you can't use as every day transport, but you will need to do a 'maintence run' every week to keep battery charged. For the cost of $50.00 per year (that includes green slip) I am not worried. Have two others on HRego so keeps me busy keeping batterys charged. Have not yet tried to start as carbs are clogged with old stale fuel and crud. There are a few spares about but a bit thin compared to some others.
Hey Murdo Love your toys!! looks like you have plenty to keep you going. Something that would be cool, when you start restoring get some photos as you progress, I know that members on the forum would enjoy watching your journey, think about it. On another subject, is historic 30 years old in all States or is that for NSW only, I've never looked into this prior.
Will be doing the photos on the KR as I have done with the others. I belive that it is 30yrs in NSW, Qld, SA and Vic. Don't know about others.
