Help GSX Replacement pistons?

    Unfortunately, I never got to the pistons, there came some other trouble with the bike which had to be sorted out first (€€€). But I still have the bike and I may try to get the pistons sometime in the future!

    Hey mate.

    I recently rebuilt my top end replacing the Pistons. I went with original Suzuki parts. It did cost a fortune though. I think something like $180 per position.

    Given that the above are different pistons for a different make and model of bike, it's unsafe to assume that the GSX pistons would be of identical quality, BUT, it seems to definitely be worth investigating, perhaps purchasing one single piston from aliexpress and making comparisons and measurements

    Brendengra, did you get the oversize pistons or standard?

    My barrel was in great condition so I stuck with the standard size. Just a slight hone then it was good to go.

    Yes, I've got the numbers now! I bought the parts catalogue (uploaded a .pdf to the Resources section too) and an original service manual (not scanned yet...). The parts catalogue lists three different piston types, respectively for „model T“, „model X“ and „model X: E4“. My bike should be X, by frame number. According to the service manual (and not the parts catalogue BTW, it doesn't explain it!) the E04 is a bike made for France. Now, I don't know for sure, but if I take a shot that my bike wasn't made for France, then it is just a „model X“. Anyways, here are the numbers for all three piston types (and note that there are only two types for 1mm oversize):

    12111-11401 (STD) model T
    12111-11402 (STD) model X
    12111-11410 (STD) model X: E4

    12111-11401-050 (OS:0.5) model T
    12111-11402-050 (OS:0.5) model X
    12111-11410-050 (OS:0.5) model X: E4

    12111-11401-100 (OS: 1.0) model T
    12111-11402-100 (OS: 1.0) model X

    And now I have the pistons. OEM. Went for the 1mm oversize so I'd be sure that they fit. I don't have the gaskets yet but I'll get 'em too. Or actually I do have gaskets, I have an aftermarket set, but I'll keep those for backup.

    1mm oversize means you have to have the cylinders bored out to match and then honed.

    Yes, I know. The bike has around 67 000 km on the clock, the left muffler smokes heavily and there is some suspicious sound in the engine that may or may not be caused by worn out pistons, thus I ordered the biggest pistons available so to assure that I can still use my old cylinders by having them bored to size.

    Check out www.suziparts.com.au he sourced me genuine Suzuki pistons. Expensive but worth it.

    I ordered mine from www.partzilla.com. The pistons came with piston rings included by the way, I wasn't even expecting that.

    They are original, Partzilla sells only OEM stuff. I haven't replaced them yet, as I am missing still the cylinder head gasket and a couple of bolts I'd like to change as well.
