If you are going to play with mixture screws/pilot jets/air jets there is a good guide here. http://vma.cape.com/~patrick/brm/carbkei.htm It is for FCRs but for this topic it is relevant. Pay attention to the Slow fuel jet and Slow air jet sections. But I know that you have already read all this because you went through my links page and said "Hey this is some good stuff. I think I'll read it all"
if the fuel supply is consistent to one of the carburetor bowls AND you've got a sticky float (possibly a hardened o ring or something on the float assembly) then fuel could seep into the engine and make its way into the oil sump. A bit of a gravity feed so to speak. Left field thought, but easy to check and fix.
Depends on the bike I guess? I'm probably thinking bandit which has a vacuum petcock. Maybe just the float o ring scenario then?
Well on the FZRs Ive dealt with it can take ages for the fuel pump to just prime when starting after sitting for awhile
We know for certain that the jets are oversized as the previous owner has f#%$ked with them, we know the fuel tap leaks. Based on this image: http://imganuncios.mitula.net/fzr_250cc_engine_and_parts_97407086977637575.jpg in relation to the photo I took, the head is leaking. Could be a bad gasket. Would it leak from being super rich? I'm not sure.
I've been advised on another forum that these emulsion tubes are suitable for the FZR250 if needed: http://www.factorypro.com/products/Jets, Hitachi, buy.htm
Another thing I noticed today, the steering is not quite straight. When the wheel is straight the bars are slightly to the left
Eugh. This bike does not like cold/wet weather! Won't hold an idle, floods all the time, you can hold the throttle steady and the revs go up and down on their own. It's all wonky I guess I'll just have to ride fast everywhere
haha welcome to the world of fizzers a can of start ya bastard in your back pocket and you'll be right!
See if you can get a set of stock carbies & rebuild them, set the floats & have them ready to bolt on & all your problems will be over. Are you running a stock airbox & filter? cause if your not you'll never get it going properly.
Grey has a set of spare carbies, course him and Grasshopper are overseas for a while yet... nothing I can really do from here with the bike. However it's warmed up today and ran fine
