Woohoo, got my P's, used the FZR and everything.

i had a few problems with the cone weave and U-turn in practice, but in the test i did ok. Only put my foot down once during the cone weave, apart from that, everything was sweet.

How good is this, i can do 90 kph now.

oh, and anyone around western sydney, i recommend using the Stay Upright at annongrove, they are great there, and you can book in 1-2 weeks before you need to do the test, not 2-3 months like the other places.

Congrats Greeny!! Now we can ride side by side at 90kmph lol.. I think not!!

FZR has a good turning circle i rekon.. very manourable once you get counter balancing and the accerlation right.

you reckon???

i guess when i had practiced a few times it was turning around pretty easy, only using 5 or so metres to do it, but there was people there on the CB250's and one guy on an XR 250 doing the u-turn in about 3m

better than the guy on the CBR i guess who took like 7 metres to turn round.

main problem with sharp right handers is my hand kept getting caught between the bars and the tank.

Haha congratulations greeny u poofter!
I guess now you'll be chasing the back of my tail more often, like you did last time!
I must say the FZR250R has a much better turning radius then a CBR250RR. The riding position is nicer too, it actually feels close to that of a R6 or something. The CBR just feels like ur sittin on a chair or coach, doesn't feel right to me.

What do u mean u can now go 90kph? do they limit your top speed on L's In Sydney?

Your P license looks harder than the one in vic...all we gotta do it like a take off and go round a corner in a certain time...and another drill thats like a traffic light...if its green u swerve left, orange u stop hard, or red go right..something like that..I dunno I need to go for my P's in the next 2 months or so.

yeah, but on cars you also have to stick on Green P's for two years after red P's, with a speed limit of 100. Bloody NSW, they just want our money.

At least we dont have to do that on the bike. Although i did hear a rumour that NSW is bringing in 18 month P's for bikes.

Whoa thats pretty stupid...doesn't that make it a traffic hazard if you got an L plater on a fwy doing 80km/h??

Theres no diff b/t what u can and cant do on L's and P's in Vic. Just means u can get off your P's quicker I guess

i dont think its such a bad thing with the speed limits on a bike. guys, we need all the experience we can get before we go hooning around on bigger bikes. although the car ones piss me off. if the green p's never existed, i wouldnt have lost my licence. i was doing 130 in a 110 zone on the way back from canberra

Agreed about the experience, but 'forcing' a rider to do less than the speed of the surrounding traffic can be a greater hazard than otherwise. (Are you allowed on 100 kph roads if you only do 90? If not then I would agree with bigkev).

As for the test being harder in NSW - much harder! It is a bit too easy in victoria - http://www.motorcycletraining.com.au/license.html. Swerve, stop, and turn and you pass.

Boz did u do yours on the fzr? The problem im having practising..and that when I turn at 20kms an hour (like they want u to in the test) the front wheel just turns..and I cant seem to counter-steer..even when I try force myself to lol.

One solution ive come up with...say for a right hander..id position my body to the left hand side while countersteering....if that makes any sense..I dunno...
Whats the best way to do it?

suxs how its got the speed limits for l n p's...

the test speed in 20-25 or 25-30. cant remeber which but u should b able to countersteer at bout 25ish...

if u look, push n lean then u should b able to counter steer quite effectively..

anyway...gl for u p test.
congrats to greeny for gettin ur lic!

apparently we used to have similar laws in vic but they were removed because the slower vehicle posed a danger to other road users. This probably wouldnt be such an issue if slower people stick to the left lane but for some reason it doesnt work here. Re: the P test, i dont tend to take turns, particurly left hand turns very quickly at all so bit worried bout doing it n the fizzer. might need to actually looks at the course and it wont be so bad, especially compared to what you NSW guys have to go through so shod be sweet as

I did do mine on the fzr without any problems and without any practice beforehand - the only practice I had was during the course in the morning.

For the turn - do you mean the swerve (exercise 2 - see link above)? What they will measure is how far out did you swerve after you reacted (or how long it takes to stop), they will not assess whether or not you counter steered. The biggest problem with this test is when people try to guess what they are going to be asked to do (left/right/stop). So don't guess, wait and react and you will be fine. I gained 8 points on this and I didn't turn very hard (to pass you must have less than 40 overall) so there is alot of leniency here. You are allowed up to 6 runs at the discretion of the instructor. I did three - the first I swerved the wrong way, the next two I swerved and stopped without issue.

If you mean the actual turn (exercise 1 - see link above) there is no set speed. The faster the better, though you do not need to go too fast. I got told off for 'being near the edge of my tire grip' during practice. I ended up doing that test around 30 km/hour or so.

Also - for the exercises they usually ask you to do it in second gear. When they said this I asked to do it in first because in second gear at 20 k/hr the fzr revs are so low you have a lot less control than if they were around the 8000-10 000 mark. They ended up letting me.
