    hey all

I'm trying to get some advices from fellow members here on this bike advertised on gumtree.

    http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/yandina/motorcycles/1989-honda-cbr-250r-mc19-not-running-/1014782467#

how does it sound to you guys? Does it sound like a good buy? Could it really be a fuel pump issue? I don't quite understand how he could relate blowing off a fuel hose with fuel pump issue but then again I don't know much about bikes as well.

Exterior wise tyres are left with plenty of treads and it looks clean too.

PS. the owner said the engine does turn over and all electrics work

    Thanks all

    yong

I dont know anything about the MC19 or its value but it looks in pretty good shape visually and if its been stored undercover thats obviously a good thing.

I wouldnt count on the tyres being ok even with plenty of tread.....if its been stored that long then the tyres could have been manufactured maybe 6 years ago.....u would need to inspect them closely for cracks and crazing and if they have hardened up.....they should have a made by date on the sidewall also.
    http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/passenger/care/age.aspx

As for the fuel pump ....who knows ...... maybe the line just came off, the pump ran dry and shot itself

The fact that its advertised as "non running" is your bargaining tool to get it at a lower price.....especially as he really doesnt know the problem. (which hopefully for u would only be a carby clean and a new filter  8) )

And be wary of having it re registered if its a grey import .....everyone I spoke to in all the bike shops here (NSW) cringed when I told them of possibly letting my Fizzer (a grey import) run out of rego and then having to get it "blue slipped"  :o
The Queenslanders here would know more about that though in your case.

+1 to greyimport, good advice, I would do a vcheck, make sure its not a write off, also check inside the tank for rusk, also brake lines etc will need to be flushed as I'm 100% positive the fluid would have gone off if it sat idle for that long.  if you think its okay, buy it, get it to my place with a slab or Coronas and a new battery,  we will see if we can get it running.

Just don't change the plugs   ( private joke)

do your costings and add 25%.rego,blue slip, pit inspection, tyres, battery, blinker fix, fuel pump ,CHECK EVERYTHING.oil change, fuel cleanout, carby check..then if still interested haggle.BUT COMPARE REGISTERED BIKES. INITIAL COST MAY ONLY BE THE START.

    hey all

thanks GreyImport. very good advice on grey imports and tyres age. I don't think i'm a very good negotiator though so I wouldn't be able to get a very good price for it as well me think.  :-[

yo chris, thanks for the offer. Sounds good. I will just send it off to your place this time to avoid any 'less fortunate' event from happening again :D

Btw anyone knows a cheap transporter? I was thinking to rent an ute from petrol station but they don't' come with ramps. I can't think of other safe ways to load the motorcycle on the ute without using ramps so it might be best to go for transporter? Unless you guys have other recommendation I'm all ears

    thanks again guys

The seller wont expect to get $1000 as he has "negotiable" in his price.
Its sat for 4 years...he just wants it gone!

I would be offering something like $700 with the fact that as risky points out, theres pit inspection, rego, tyres and any mechanical fixes to get it running and roadworthy.
I did my haggling for the Fizzer by text message as it was 4 hours away!

Offer cash in the hand and immediate pickup .

When I needed to pick up the my 2 Fizzers (1 spares bike) I tried to rent a bike trailer but there was none about here.
I asked at the bike shops and got 1 for 24 hours on loan.

    Easy as....

friend, take 50$ notes and offer 500 which is low and have 10 50,s in the hand and another 250 in another pocket. show the 500 and let him think.do not offer more but let him make a counter offer.look serious and wear old clothes.do not try to be smart or look prosperous.

    Hey yongpc
Good to see you back on the forum, it's been awhile.
You certainly have opened a can of worms, so to speak.
The advise given has been excellent, as for collecting the said bike, plenty of bike couriers around. My advise is get a quote to have the bike collected and delivered to Brisbane. This will be the starting point of your negotiation, bike price + transport.
Bike hasn't run for sometime generally means some stripping down which=$$$
Take the time, don't ever feel rushed. Make a mental note of what you may have to spend and base your offer on this. Once you make an offer, don't say another word, you don't have to justify yourself, sounds easy but can be the hardest part of the whole deal. You may have to walk away, but a keen seller won't let you go that easily.
Good luck with it mate, here's hoping!

yeah phil, everyone has been very helpful  with excellent advice that I can apply elsewhere in my life too like the negotiations skills

You guys are right. The numbers just doesn't add up. There are cost to clean carbys, sorting out the problems(maybe water pump), new engine oil, oil filter, clean out the tanks, tyres etc. The buyer received an offer of $900 for his bike so it might add up to more expensive than buying a rr now with everything to be done lol. Also there is an extra cost to convert it to single seater as well since it's registered as double seater now.

Chris, love the tri-colour but it's a bit too expensive me think. It would be okay if it's an australian delivered one but it's a jap import, probably complianced in 1998 so  not really worth it right?

Thanks for all the advices guys. would appreciate if you guys can help to look out for good cbr deals out there. Thanks a million  ;D

    yong

PS. when is the next ride out? why isn't there anything new mentioned at the 'ride-out' section anymore? ::)
