Hi there my name is Chris, I am currently living in Newcastle in New South Wales and riding(read as fixing) a 1989 GSXR250 GJ73A. I have had her for the last 3 years and she as taught me alot about working on motorcycles. I only recently stumbled upon this forum and feel like I have struck gold! As I hope that i can solve an issue I have had since owning the bike. My bike HATES cold starts its been a major headache for me but am yet to solve the mystery hopefully someone will be able to help on this forum.

Anyways from what I have seen on the forum looks like there is a wealth of knowledge and I am very excited.

    Cheers.

Welcome aboard, there aren't a lot of GSXR 250's on here, mostly Honda's and Yamaha's, a few Kawasaki's.

If the bike hates cold starts then it's possibly running rich. What we have found with our FZR's is that the needles/jets get worn and flood the engine.

It would be worthwhile taking your carbs off and inspecting the needles & emulsion tubes for wear.

    Exhibit A:

    Rich? you sure?
Mine always start great cold when running rich, hard to start when lean because cannot get enough fuel into cylinders to fire.

Yeah, it's lean which can cause the hard start... as Blair also pointed out with the prob we were having with some spare carbs..

Interesting read. I have had the carbs apart a couple of times to clean them but never paid much attention on the jet wear. I will definitely have a good look at this next time I have the carbs out. Thanks heaps.
