I think both gaskets were 100 bucks in total. Part number 3LN-11351-00

About now it seems to me that splitting the cases was the easy bit!
About to torque head down when noticed that camchain couldn't be hooked onto the crankshaft gear. It looks like there's a guide, mine being outside of which, to keep chain in proximity. Curse the FZR400 reassembly page 192 or 4-56 which doesn't mention this issue.
    I'm going to have to re-split, aren't I?

If it's slipped to the side of the tensioned runner on the inside of the engine, lift the head back off, lift the barrels off and see if you can then move that tensioner back to get the chain onto the gear on the crank

Might even get to do that without lifting the barrels off
Then perhaps a small cable tie at the top of the tensioner to keep the chain lined up

Really was a post for comic relief. The camchain tensioner has two tangs to avoid it slipping away from cog when untensioned, and also to stop it going back into place when some doofus doesn't know what they're doing.
Dumb blunder, but when re-assembling upside down the chain is hidden. Shoulda twigged as soon as the barrels slipped down easy, since the lower end of camchain tensioner is constantly pressured outwards by chain on the cog - and it has to be bent inwards.
