Was in the OCAU forum recently and got a PM from this guy asking if I was interested in selling my fizzer. I said not particularly, but if I was, I'd be asking $3500.

The little bastard comes back to me saying it's overpriced - 'i can get a CBR250 for that - they're better and more popular'. Well, go and buy a bloody cibby then, if you want to look like every other boy racer out there!

For a good condition FZR, well maintained, kept in garage, only about 20,000 kms on it, I reckon 3500's reasonable. Plus I reckon mine looks pretty flash - it's the R6 blue with the same style decals, except it's labelled 'R2'...

What's everyone else think - is $3500 reasonable? Was this guy a tool or justified?

i think $3,500 is fair for a fzr in good condition...

according to the specs of a fzr vs cbr, is the cbr actually better on paper?

I don't believe so - I think they're pretty evenly matched. It really pisses me off that everyone thinks the cibber is so good - yeah, they look okay, but every second bike you see is a babyblade! C'mon people, be a little original, go for something a bit more unusual!

The thing that pisses me off is the fact that he approached me, and then complains I'm asking too much!

I don't want to sell it anyway...

If it was a 3ln round here in Canberra it would fetch 4 grand without too much of a problem. I would have to say he is a bit of a tool if he thinks he can get better value from a cbr. I have noticed though there is more and more interest being shown in the fizzer, especially over at OCAU.mc.

From what I've found they are pretty much the same in torque and power, the cibbys up to '94 were 45hp and from '94 on were restricted to 40hp (due to japanese regulations)
And this is similar to the fizzers up to '93/'94 they were also 45hp and from '93/'94 onwards were also restricted to 40hp.
I think the zxr250 and gsx250 would probably be the same or very similar in this respect.

And I think that guy is a dick. I got my fzr for $4800, I was happy with the purchase at the time although now I think it was maybe a little overpriced, had minor scratches here and there and needed a tune and service.

So let me get this straight... you weren't advertising your bike but he PM'd you anyway to see if you'd sell your bike. You tell him $3500 and he tells you it's a ripoff!?

What a tool.

In good condition a 3LN-3 is easily worth $3500 or more.
I hope Cossie doesn't mind me saying so but i sold mine for ~$3k including 12 months reg, but mine needed a bit of cosmetic loving.

i think its just a honda complex.... uneducated people that dont have them think theyre good cos so many people have them... and of course the people that have them are going to say their the best...

its the same with cars... ive found that honda boys GENERALLY look down on other jap sports cars. no doubt honda make great machines, but i dont know whether they warrant all that arrogance...

sorry if i offended any honda owners... i was making broad generalisations

what does everyone think a 2KR should go for in the summer? (I reckon everyone should sell 250's in the summer )[/b]

im my opinion based simply on expiriance summer prices are as follow:

CBR250R (MC19) $2500 for a crapy but RWC bike... $5000 for a flashy RR paint

CBR250RR (MC22) $3500 for crapy but RWC bike... $4000 - $5000 gets you average bike bit scrached but Mech A1 $5500 gets you an average CBR (smashed and rebuilt cuntless times by back yard mechs and dealerships)... but $6000 to $8000 can get you an original MPE import with REAL service history that has a good chance of never being rebuilt (RARE)

FZR250 (2KR) $3000 is about the perfect price to pay for one that runs good and is RWC... the body work can be a bit "scrached" but compleate.. $4000 should get you one that has had a good repaint and is Mech A1

FZR250 (3LN) $3500 is the bottom end.. some thing that runs like a dog and looks like one but is "RWC"... in the real world a good 3LN is about $4500 and for $5000+ you should be able to get one with original paint or freshly painted and Mech A1

In Tassie you can add $500 - $1000 to those prices. Big demand and short supply for 250 sports bikes.

EDIT:
having said that there is a FZR250 in the paper for $1000 not regd, engine goes (might be the same one CAPITAN is looking at) and a couple of fzr1000's and a fzr600 for around $7000

Time to swich to GS500 than... lucky they are so much simpler than the FZR...

I'll start stocking parts...

LOL with LAMS there are more bikes that there should not be in the list as acceptable bikes then 2 stroke 250s!! In my opinion the only 2 bikes that I have found good as a learner bike that are larger than a 250 is the GS500 and the ER-5...

As i said to you yesterday... it's all just noises in the rumour mill at the moment but the noises are getting more frequent and from better sources. Even then, it's going to be a while before it's actually put into effect.

As for other learner bikes, what about the GT650L? Or even the SV650 non restricted? Yes they have a bit of power, but it's better than letting a noob jump on a Gixxer or R6.

ok ok, lets just keep these "rumours" to ourselves for another month or so - at least until i've sold the fizzer for more than a couple of peanuts that is!

I wouldn't worry about that, the Fizzer is about the quickest, most powerfull bike on the approved list anyway. A lot of the bigger C.C. bikes are dirtbikes, old relics, or wouldn't handle the way a FZR does.

For anyone thats interested I have posted a new buggy video on my web page

http://www.my-x15.net/ridgley14jan06.wmv
I might sell the buggy shortly to buy a bigger bike - Funny that KOMA mentioned the SV650. It is one of my main contenders for the fizzer replacement. They are relatively cheap 2nd hand considering the age of them - I would only need 2-3k to upgrade from the FZR for a bike thats 3-4years old.

Have you ridden an SV650 or similar V-twin yet dave?
If you enjoy the power delivery of the FZR250, then the SV650 may not be your kettle of fish. I liken the power delivery of a v-twin to the reverse of an inline-4... starts off with everything then winds out to nothing.

They probably are more sensible and usable around town... but since when did i want a motorbike to be sensible? It's the same reason i go to watch the MotoGP and drool over the M1 - it's just bonkers.

If you have ever been to burnie its all hills, lots of gear changing, 6 gears up and down from my home to the first intersection and lots more like that on the way to work.

No I have not ridden the SV but they are not much heavier than the FZR, 70hp vs 45hp but a lot more torque and fast enough for me ( we have 110k max on some highways) I am only an old novice after all.

When I look at near new and not too expensive there are not a lot of options

I have not seen many SV or TL1000 for sale. Thats my younger sons expectation of me and he wants to ride it. Eldest boy wants to get a H*rnet (900)
