    Thanks mclaren,
Yeah ill keep searching for some new boots. But i reckon the heatshrink tape will be ok i highly Doubt that the tape would get sucked in its pretty strong stuff especially once its heated and shrunken it holds like a fat kid with a ice cream.

Hate to say it... oil in the cylinders may be a bad head gasket.

Same colour as you can see on the main jet but once its removed its a little darker and looks slightly wet on the tube that the jet slides over.
Hope its not the head gasket cant see any leaking oil anywhere might see if I can chase up a compression tester just to make sure. If i was to take the head off i'd be replacing the rings and I dont really want to see a set of pistons after 27 years at 18000rpm and god knows how many owners.

Ah sorry I thought you meant in the cylinders or the spark plugs, not the carbs.

All good yeah I was wondering how oil would get in there lol
Number 3 cylinder spark plug was a little black slightly wet it looks exactly like my ktm 300 but thats a 2 stroke and running slightly rich.

I was wondering while I have the carbs off may as well check chain tensioner you guys have a link on this or is it pretty straight foward.

Dude, if you battery is flat in 7 minutes it's not charging. Three possibilities:

    1. Battery is stuffed and not holding charge (you can test this easily enough). How old is it, have you tried replacing it? Not a bad investment either way.
    2. Reg/rec (AC to DC conversion) you said you've checked that so that one's ruled out
    3. Stator. Most likely you've got buggered stator coils (it's shorting on one of the phases). Try and source another one.

I don't think there's any other ways you could see the symptoms you're having, you've done well to recognise the issues at the battery. I'd be resolving this first before messing with your carbies or you're changing more than one thing at once and you may mask/miss the complete resolution.

    Good luck.

Invest in a JIS screwdriver. Phillips screws/drivers are designed to cam-out at max torque. JIS is designed to NOT cam out.

All good Stu charging problem is sorted now, the replacement VRR i brought was no good so it must of been something dodgy with the old wiring as I pretty much rewired the whole bike lol

Yeah ill definitely look into the jis type screwdrivers.

Ok so I snapped 1 of the screw that screw into the emulsion tube :( hoping that I can drill a hollow out of a brass screw and use that.
Btw does anyone know what the float height should be on a 2kr it has stock bds26 carbs, floats on no 3 and 4 were much lower than 1 and 2.
The way I see there is 3 methods of measuring float height 1 is with the carbs sitting flat and measuring to top of floats no2 is measuring with carbs flat with the floats fully open and no3 is with the carbs tilted 45degrees with the tang slightly touching the valve which is the way I've always done it can anyone clarify this please.
