Fuel meters

    ok, i dunno if anyone else has ever run out of peterol, or if im the only dumb **** out there (probably), but after my latest episode on monday where for you melb boys i got stuck in laverton about 40kms from my place in camberwell at 1-30am on the freeway, I had to camp out till 7am when the nearest gas station opened. girlfriend who lived nearby did'nt give a **** and would'nt help. needless to say she is out of the picture now. Anyhow to cut this thesis short 2 questions.
    1.)Can a meter be fitted?
    2.) if you guys are cruising, how many revs do you normally ride at. im sitting on a min of 10k at the mo.

    **** sanddog, cant believe ur gal didnt come help u out.. why didnt u call a mate.. man that must of being a long wait..
    I usually turn my tap to normal fuel so when it cuts out i change it to reserve while riding then i find a petrol station.. cause u may get some bad ass fuel in ur engine.

    You have a meter to indicate petrol level? I dont have one on my bike..
    When crusing i stay about 6K-8K.. i usually travel in 6th gear when going 70kms.. 10K is just starting the powerband thus wasting more petrol... so keep it under not 10K exactly..

    Fuel

    If ive read it right hes asking can a fuel meter gauge be fitted. Sort answer "yes", long answer "not really worth it". It could be fitted but that what mean major changes and playing around. The reason I say "not really worth it" is because it is very simple to look inside your tank to see if its got fuel. But this time you thought you did have some but didnt cause of your mate riding it. I ran out of fuel once and from that time on everytime before I jump on my bike to ride (unless Ive just filled up) ill open the petrol filler and see how much I got in there. And I too right with the tap on normal so ive got that extra ltr or two in reserve.

    I ride at 10-11,000rpm because thats what my bike is pulling when im riding at 120km/r in 6th gear, if im in town doing 50-60km/h I ride around in 5th or 6th gear doing around 5-6,000rpm the power band for my bike is from 7,500rpm to about 15,500rpm. I dont tend to worry about fuel because in my town if you ride for about 30mins your would pass about 6 petrol stations lol. When im going out of town for a ride I will fill it to the top.

    When cruising I typically stick between 6000-8000 revs. Obviously at higher speeds (like Jarmizz said) I will be at higher revs - I tend to be around 9000 to 10 000 when going 100.

    As for fuel - after every fill up I reset my trip odometer (this is my fuel guage). I start to think about fuel when this reaches 130-140 km's of city riding (can stretch that a bit more on open roads). I usually switch to reserve between 150-160 (though most times I have filled up before this).

    And yes I have run out of fuel. Fortunately it was about 250 meters to the petrol station. (I did this on a return from aus superbikes in 2001 - I was travelling with a larger sports tourer and he assumed I had enough fuel to go the whole trip melbourne-phillip island-melbourne on one tank. Being inexperienced at the time I trusted him and assumed he was correct. I found out I can only do 3/4 of that trip...)

    Hahahaha least it was only 250meters from the petrol station and no 100kms hahahahaa. I gess another thing to save fuel would be to change the sprokets to change the gearing. Im happy with the way my bike goes. If I want a bike good on fuel ill buy a scooter if I want lower revs but higher speed ill buy a larger CC bike. If I want higher revs and quicker bike I would get a fully work 600cc. Ahhhhhh the feeling of being content with what ive got (reason im like this, I just got back from a ride) <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
