Couple of questions on forks. What distance should a 3LN's forks be above the top yoke? FZR400 manual says 44mm, can't see a figure for it in the 250 manual. Also that hoary old chestnut, how much oil? Manual says 275ml but site stats say 390ml. I have my forks out so I'm going to measure how much oil is in them at present to see if it's close to either of those figures.
Distance through the triple clamps depends on the feel your after and the agility your after, same with oil weight and springs, theres no right answer as depending on your style, road conditions, speed, and personal physical size changes the factors in determining the right set-up.
Manual is available from this site courtesy of dave: http://fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?t=2889 As for the amount of fork oil, the manual for the 2KR states 275ml. Another spec sheet on the site states 390ml for the 3LN.
The service manual for my bike says inspect every 12,000k and on other forums some people suggest changing every 10,000k. ??? When I pulled my FZR forks apart, the oil was black, so it was well past its use-by date. If you don't know when it was last changed it is not a major job or expense. Oil can be changed without pulling the forks apart, only need to undo the drain plug at the bottom of the fork and push the bars up and down untill it's all out. Refill by taking the top off, as described elsewhere on this site.
g'day. i have a naked 3ln-1 and weigh 78kg ish i run 400ml of 10w in the front and i think is ok, i was running 15w previously and i think that felt beter around town. but i think the 10W is holding the road better on the rough bits. I run the fork caps flush with the top yoke, raising them up through the forks make me push the front a bit too hard. (and it doesn't help the wheelies either). hope my experiences help
