    Hi all!

I've found heaps of useful info here, so cheers, but I've never needed to post until now.

I smashed off the top part of my right mirror bracket (so the mirror is fine, but I'll need to replace the bracket) on my Yamaha zeal fzx250 ('99). The thing is, it's not a free standing bracket, it's attached to the brake leaver, as shown in the pics. (I hope they're clear enough; let me know if something needs a better shot.)

    Right side:

I've also attached a pic of the left side which seems to be similarly attached to the clutch bracket but a little differently:

Anyway, there's no need to replace the mirror, but I'll need to replace the mirror bracket that connects to the front brake bracket. I've seen stuff like this : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2x8-mm-M...197858?hash=item566fb32122:g:pO4AAOSwgkRVUKDX

but I'd rather attach it to the brake as in the pic because I don't think there's room for a standalone mirror bracket on the handlebars.

Any advice would be awesome! I guess I'm also not sure if it's reversed or normal thread and if it's 8mm or 10mm.

    Cheers,
    James

    :welcome:

You would need to replace the master cylinder clamp. Part number 3YX-2583H-00 from a Yamaha dealer, or get one off a wrecker.

Is the master cylinder clamp the name of the little mirror bracket that hooks up to the right brake bracket?

Yeah, here's the diagram. I got the number wrong before through, what you need is highlighted in the picture. That's what I get for posting before I have my morning cuppa

Nevermind, found it for $20 in a more convenient store, so I'll just go pick it up. Will there be any part between the clamp and the mirror? This is the connecting end of the mirror:

Your Zeal mirror looks like an M10 and the eBay version is M8

Fun turn of events, which means I'm in a bit of a pickle:

I've got the new part. Sweet! Check to see the mirror screws in, and it just so happens to be the threads are going opposite ways...

It must have been that one of the previous owners replaced the mirror with a left hand mirror, flipped it round, and changed the thread on the part that I broke, so now I have to either change the thread on this little part I bought, or buy a new right hand mirror. Happy days :(

On a completely unrelated note, anyone with a similar looking right hand mirror want to trade for this left hand one?

My zeal mirrors are like that. Left and right are different threads. I bought some aftermarket ones that are exactly the same as the standard ones for 30 bucks off ebay. My bike had no mirrors when I bought it.

Yamaha have done the R and L hand thread on their bikes for years (the '67 YDS5 had it) so any Yamaha mirror should fit. Or, can you just get someone with a tapping set to rethread the mirror.

Hey mate! I just saw this now - really appreciate the offer though. I ended up just replacing the part and buying new mirrors. I should probably get around to selling the two left mirrors I have now..

We've had a few come around including a toolbox night just last Friday.. would have been ideal to help you look. I have a spare reg rec as ive got fzr parts galore at the moment. You can ride with hand signals... not ideal but not illegal.

Hah, that would have been ideal. Got pulled over the other day for it - so she's due for a Vicroads inspection unfortunately. If it turns out to be a faulty reg/rec, can I buy that spare one off you?

Righto, the battery pushes 17v's when revving a lil bit. Can I grab that reg/rec off you? ;)

Does this look right, how I've re-installed the reg/rec? What happens if you run a bike without a reg/rec?

Your pic isn't showing up for me ?
If you don't have a reg/rect the bike will start and run if you have a good battery, but it'll eventually drain the battery as it's not being recharged
