Well after about a week of teaching myself to ride around my local area I have finally managed to fuckup good and make my bike unrideable. After one of my most succesful runs I was parking my baby in the backyard and I must have turned to much because next thing I knew I was trying to keep it from slamming into the ground (it was falling to the right, yes, the right).
I managed to take most of the force away when it touched the ground and I was quite happy with my effort but as I lifted it back up I lost my balance and had to watch it fall ALOT harder then before on the left. My poor clutch absorbed most of the impact and thus was clean snapped of
I'm of to a wrecker in Ashwood ASAP cause seeing my bike like that depresses me

I'm just curious... How much do these puppies weigh?

My FZR 1000 porks in @ 525 lbs or 238 kg. I've had to pick mine up 3 times. I hope to not have to do it a 4th time.

It weighs in at 140kg so it's fairly light, I prolly should have mentioned its a 250.

The damn traffic today made me unable to get to the wreckers intime... I miss riding even more now.

If it was the lever that broke it is only a cheap fix for a brand new one, less than $20 but if it was the bit that clamps on the bar thats a different story.
**** happens - Mine fell over a month ago when I wheeled it out of the garage, started it up and turned around and took one step to get my riding jacket and BANG. -- %$&*#@^**%$# -- Broken indicator, clutch lever and gear shift, tiny dent in tank and scratched the paint on the nose fairing . Straight back in the garage

Needless to say I will never again leave the bike running unless the nose is pointing uphill

P.S. Oh and I put a set of Oggy knobs on too, just in case the unthinkable decides to happen again.

I managed to put my baby down on St Patrick’s day morning. When ever I told people that the first thing that comes out their mouth was "Had you been drinking?" The first few times I just stood there blankly, closely followed by me laugh in their face. I figured it was easier to dismiss such a stupid question as a joke rather than take it seriously.

Turns out one 4WD owner felt compelled to reverse over a traffic island and into oncoming traffic (me) without looking. Maybe she thought that if she couldn’t see anyone then they couldn’t see her or the roundabout signage she had just flattened.

I noticed her as I rounded the bend but it was too late. My only options where a gutter skirted with coppers logs and an oncoming car or trying to stop in time. I didn’t really think and just put it down and prayed the 4WD would stop when it heard the scraping, as me and the bike skidded down the road. Thank the lord they did.

Damage report:
bent and rashed clutch lever
cracked top fairing
scratched mirror
rashed bar end and pillion peg
tweaked forks
minor scratch to ducktail
bent left rearset
sheared off gear lever

I actually think it came out of it quite well considering. Helmet didn’t touch the ground, few more battle scars on the jacket, nasty carpet burn from the inside of my jeans and that was it.

Point of all my ramblings you ask? Believe it or not it happens to the best of us. Don’t feel bad or ashamed, instead I welcome you to the club. I once dropped the fizzer in a busy petrol station. Right in front of a group of workmen installing a new ATM, I felt like such a tool, they all stared and had a bit of a chuckle as I tried to clear the flooded engine. None of the bastards helped me pick it up either.

Oh and dave tell me if you win the lotto so I can go and buy a ticket. Seems like a pattern is forming.

I surely will Ciarin.. Some good luck would be nice..

If the "sheared off gear lever" was just the pin that your toe nudges it is easily repairable. I removed the old pin and made a new one on the lathe and had it welded in at work. Very cheap repair. I would hate to think what a whole new lever would cost? I guess you have already done the repairs though?

$130 for an almost new foot peg, heel plate, gear lever and pushrod assembly from the wreaking yard. It was the bill for the fairing repairs that gave me the brain aneurism.

Thx for the replies guys
I've got everything back in order now, including new rubber seals for the air filter --> carbi. The previous owner had seals 3mm to small that were just flapping in the wind so to speak. With the new ones installed it runs like a dream and won't cut out when cold anymore. The clutch lever was only $10 and a simple install and I just finished degreassing all the dirt of the bike. I've never been more proud of my bike heh

Today is a good day

Nothing like the satisfaction of fixing it yourself and having it all come together - Great stuff.
