Gday all, glad I've found this sight and loving it so far..
Im currently on my first solo build, 1980 gsx250 and have ran into some issues, ive tested both coils, primary test had the correct ohms, secondary test showed no reading which leads me to believe they are duds, bike was also sold to me without front axle spacers or a bearing hub and am trying to track these parts down, suzuki have had no luck as of now, coils and leads have been discontinued apparently.

Just wondering if theres any coils and leads off the shelf or from other bikes I can buy and swap them over, cheers guys!

Will have some more pictures up when im further along in the project.

    Welcome to the forum

When you tested the secondary side of the coil's did you switch your multimeter to 20K (20,000) Ohm's ?
Did you check them with the spark plug cap's off the coil lead's ?
While you are at it you may as well check the resistance through the spark plug cap's too, they might be dirty/corroded inside

You bike is looking pretty clean too, is it being bobbed ?

For the point type coil's you need the primary side of the ignition coil to read 4-5Ω, for the secondary side it should read 20-23 Ω

For the transistor type ignition it should read 3.5-4.5Ω on the primary, and secondary is 23K - 25K Ω

Yeah I made sure it was on 20k ohms, brand new multimeter aswell. They're transistor type I believe, the primary reading was good but wasnt getting any off the secondary.

Yeah I tested with the caps off the leads aswell, thought I had broken it when I pulled it off haha, unfortunately no reading though.

Im wondering if its possible to put in a dual fire coil instead of the 2 singles..

Not quite a bobber, more of a bobber brat mix, its coming slowly but getting there.

@my67xr are there any COP pencil coils that Inkski might be able to use instead of staying with the traditional coil packs and leads? Were those numbers you quoted (Primary 3.5-4.5Ω & Secondary 23-25KΩ) from the GXS250 manual?

Yeah they were from the service manual.
I dont think the dual fire coil idea will work, but will look at the COP thread and see if there's any suitable
Not sure on available space above the spark plug's for the GSX250 though

edit, the cop coil's are all a bit low on the secondary side, primary could use some resistor's to bring up the resistance but can't do anything on the secondary
Being a 2 cylinder you don't get to double thing's up

    Pic from my manual.
Not too good at the electrical side of motorcycles but I know a little bit.
    Manuals are good

Not familiar with cop coils tbh, ill do some research too.
Id have just bought coils from suzuki but theyve discontinued them, cant even order them in from Japan.
