I've let the oil out of my forks to go for a roadworthy so the tiny tiny leak from pitting won't.. leak. Anyhow, how do i fill them back up after

    Ingredients:

    1 Socket and wrench
1 Towel or cloth to soften impact
1 Flashlight or other artificial light emitting device
    1 Pinch of Salt
    1 Tape measure
    1/2 Brain

    Method:
just grab a socket and undo the large cap bolts at the very top of the forks. You shouldn't have to fiddle with the pinch bolts, but if you have to, it'll just be the top one. Be careful and use a cloth or something to cover it so it doesn't put a hole in your head or the garage roof when it pops. If you can take the weight off of the front forks it will help.

Once they'r.e off take out the washer, spacer and spring. Then fill em up, stopping 106mm from the top off the fork tubes using ein flashenlight und einen tapenmeasure assist. Pump forks up and down to distribute oil and then recheck the level, topping up if necessary. Place everything back in, in the same order, making sure they're clean. Spring goes in with the small pitch up. Put a smear of fork oil on the o-ring and then reinstall the clean cap bolts. Throw salt over shoulder for luck and voila.

PS the dok-tor also notes that you should probably also download the fzr400 manual found here http://www.fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?t=327 and also splash out and get a new set of seals and do the job properly.

Were the forks meant to be off the freaking bike?

I took off the caps and the shockies depressed completely, so i can't pump the forks at the moment.

I managed to lift the front wheel off the ground and the shocks were stuck in place, if i can get the front wheel suspended indefenitely will i then be able to pump them???
if so then i'm gonna be jacking the bike and suspending it from the big tree in the front yard

also, is the o-ring attached to the cap or is it seperate? i don't have o-rings at the moment, i have 2 spacers, 2 springs and 2 caps. if they flew off with the caps then their lost. what does that mean for me???

Without being there, I would say go with the tree. Just put the caps on before you get bark and other stuff in the tubes while you hang it.

I neglected to mention earlier that the 106mm should be with the forks compressed, so you'll need to chuck some **** under the front wheel to re-compress them again to fill the oil.

I'm not sure if you have a 2KR and I don't know if they're any different than the 3LN's, but with the 3LN caps the O-rings are in a groove between the thread and the underside of the cap and there is no way they could come off accidentally.

    Hope this helps some.
