    Well I did it. I bought a new bike this evening. Still get to stick around here as I kept it within the yamaha family. I am the proud new owner of a 1996 yamaha yzf-750-r.

    It is a fabulous bike, and I look forward to riding it! Can't wait to get comfortable on it - it will be a bit of adjustment from the 250 given that it has 4 times the horsepower, and only 50 kg added weight...

    Picked it up a day early, and rode it for a net of 60 k's this afternoon. Great fun - love this bike. It is so much easier to ride than the 250, though corners are still being taken very gently...

    Power: excellent! 125 HP, and 80 Nm torque. Very revvy - has a 14000 redline). Usable Power comes starts around 3000, but at 6000 there is a huge boost of power as well, and the engine note starts to change - I am assuming this is where the exup starts to open. I have not revved it past 9000 yet... Still getting comfortable on it (and besides it theoretically goes about 120 k/hr in first at redline, so it makes sense that I haven't had it much past 9000)

    It can go 0-100 in 3.6 sec, and 0-200 in around 10 seconds. I have not tested these, just what I have been told.

    No aftermarket parts on it. Not sure what I want to do/if I want to do. i have been reading about mods to make to it, and apparently the best bang-for-buck is a rebore. Will gain about 10 hp supposedly. I am considering aftermarket exhaust to remove weight and improve sound, but probably won't as the money isn't worth it at the moment - I am just happy with the bike! Out-dragged a supped up comodore this morning on the way to work - it was so easy (he ended up passing me because I stopped accelerating at 70 k/hr (70 zone) and he kept on going up to 90 probably).

    It now has 33900 k's on it, bought it at 32800 (1000 k's in one week isn't too bad...).
    Complete specs at: http://home.conceptsfa.nl/~cootwijk/yzf/specifications.htm

    Had the wife on it for a trip yesterday and it was quite comfortable for both of us. She was noticable at low speeds, but once I got over 20 k/hr never noticed. She said the bike was quite comfortable overall too, so she is happy. Brought her to a shopping mall. It is great cuz being on a bike means she can't spend much money.

    Haha I'm so happy for ya Boz,

    Sounds like alot of power to play with mate, its good that it keeps the Mrs happy to. To say the truth I think it looks awesome just as it is, now I dont normally like totally standard bikes but that is very sexy and looks in mint cond. Must be a hell of a lot quicker than the FZR250 that you are use to, have you scared your self on the new bike yet?

    It isn't quite mint. There are a few scratches on the left hand side where the side stand was forgotten at one point and the bike dropped - other than that it is mint. Which is a surprise because the previous owner was negligent on certain areas of upkeep. The chain and sprockets are new on it, as were the tires, so obviously he kept that well. However the clutch and brake fluids were brown/black instead of a nice flourecent green. So I did that this past weekend (including filter). Braking feel has improved immensely since bleeding them! I also changed oil/filter thinking if the brake fluid was that bad oil could be too, but fortunately it was quite clean (I still replaced it and the filter).

    And yes, I have scared myself a few times. Nothing significant - surprise may be a better description. Taking off a bit quicker than the fzr was ever capable of I feel myself being pulled back on the seat and feel like I will leave the seat to pilot from the pillions position. Did this a few times until I learned how to best brace myself for acceleration like that. Lots of fun!

    Sounds like you have sorted out the areas that could have became serious problems in the future. He must have never changed the brake and clutch fluids, well its good u have the brakes working good as with that much power you need good working brakes. Well I must say I am jalous of you but my time for a larger bike will come.

    Great stuff Boz <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
