does anyone know a reliable workshop in the syd area who repairs fairings, as in plastic weld, i have a few minor cracks that i want to get fixed. Or is there a kit you can buy to do it yourself? any help appreciated.
You can do it yourself with a kit called plastex available from http://www.motorcyclewreckers.com/index.html or http://www.plastex.net.au/ Where abouts do you live Greeny, cause the one that did my bike is in the Smithfield area near Fairfield. However the job is average not the best plastic fibreglass making I seen, plastic welding was decent. If you want the number let me know cause i ll have to call my mate to call his mate to get it cause I cant remeber the shop's name.
plastex works well - I have used it previously. A bit fiddly, and takes a bit of time to get it looking good, but for minor cracks it is much cheaper than any shop
Dean i live in Castle Hill, i know smithfield. i think i'll just try the plastex first, the cracks are minor, it's just they piss me off becasue they're weak spots in the plastic, so i want to at least strengthen them a bit so they dont crack more. ok, i'll buy this plastex stuff and see how i go....
If all you want to do is strengthen the section, have you considered putting some fibreglass on the under-side of the fairing? It is much cheaper, and you can get it from any autoparts shop (about $10 for a tin that will outlast your bike). It won't fix the crack (like plastex will) but it certainly will certainly strengthen the area and prevent the crack from getting any worse.
hey boz, thanks for that i didn't even think of that, i was actually wondering how i was going to use the plastex as i imagine had i used it i would have had to respray that part of the panel. the fibreglass idea definately sounds like the way to fix it, the cracks aren't obvious, just in spots where my legs may sometimes hit them.] thanks again.
