Pretty sure I remember seeing a stamp on the valve cover that said magnesium. Dunno how much of the rest of the engine is mg though. <!-- s:alcoholic: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_all_coholic.gif" alt=":alcoholic:" title="Alcoholic" /><!-- s:alcoholic: -->
Magnesium would be awesome as it is lighter than the others and most of the weight is the engine, it is though (as far as im aware) an alloy with a mixture of steel and aluminium. On a side note i heard that the new R1 and R6 are getting magnesium subframes, lets see how they go.
Magnesium is a very unstable element, i.e. It readily ignites in air but it is mixed with aluminium to form magnesium alloy. And much more stable...
Yep, def is unstable. You can buy a bar of magnesium from camping stores with a flint on the other side. You scrape a some shavings of magnesium off with your knife, then hit the back of your knife on the flint to spark uf the shavings, they flare up and you get fire without matches. Just one of the many fun ways of making fire. Another good one is potasium permangenate (sp?) cushed up with sugar into a powder. rested on a flat rock or something, and dragging you knife though it will give you fire. Potassium perangenate is also a good water sanitiser at low concentation, or anticeptic at higher concentration, sorry, off topic but could be inteesting to some. Shaun
