Question is what is normal and what is not.

My bike burns oil when cold start up (mornings only) then goes away after the engine is warm.

Don't shoot me if the topic has been covered, it is very hard to search for

When you say consuming oil, do you mean it splutters a little bit of oil whilst it's warming up or do you mean it eats it like the cookie monster in a hershey factory?

My opinion is that whilst it'd be great if engines didn't use any oil, if it's anything other than new or fresh then yes it'll use a tiny bit of oil.

Water vapour condenses in the muffler and exhaust system when they cool down overnight. Then when you start the engine of a cold morning the resultant steam from the hot exhaust condenses as it its the cold air again. the colder the weather the more you notice it. Mine used to br quite noticable in winter..

He's saying burning oil though, not condensation.

You should be able to smell the difference as well.

He did say that and he could be right. I probably worded my reply badly..

But usually if it's only first thing when the air temp is cold, I would suggest that it is most likely to be stream.

definitely burning oil, I wish I could say "I love the smell of burning oil in the morning" ! ....but .......

It only burns for about a minute and to add to it does not happen all the time.

Suppose it's only burning a small amount of oil, which I can live with.

If it is burning oil, then the oil has to come from somewhere and then the most likely source is from leaking valve stem seals particularly if it does it after sitting for a long time.

It would also likely be noticable to a rider behind you when you go down a hill with no throttle then open up at the bottom of the hill, with either a slight burst of smoke, or the rider behind would smell it, as it might not be visible at that time.

Smoking under load I.E. going up hills, usually means the rings are stuffed and oil fumes are going out the breather pipe.

Valve stem seals are not a major problem but expensive to fix. If that is the problem try a different brand/grade of oil to see if it helps.
