This has me stumped as I don't understand automotive electrics that well. I want to add an accessory plug to my bike (Suzuki Across) for a Garmin GPS unit. I know these things can be bloody distracting, as I've used it already - only with batteries so far. But I kinda just want it for getting me out of strife with directions when required on the odd trip to Melbourne (a city I don't know my way around).. anyways, Can I simply connect the terminals to the battery, with a switch on the positive lead to cut the connection to the accessory input? Of course I'd have to make sure the switch was off when the bike isn't running otherwise I'll drain the battery - or disconnect the GPS power supply from the accessory power output. I wanted to leave the GPS power supply plugged in (wired up and sealed with heatshrink, and out of the weather's way). The switch I have is a backlit switch with three connectors - ground, accessory, and power, but I can't get it to light up in the way I want, although I can get it to act as a straight on/off switch. Will I break/blow anything? Brad
Hey Brad I have heard of a few people wiring in extra electrical devcies, the across uses a 12v system so it should be straight forward. Check out this link from steve at www.suzukiacross.org as he wired in a clock and shows where you can pick up a 12v souce from the fuse box. thanks Chris http://suzukiacross.org/2007/05/30/adding-a-new-instrument/
