My bike is driving me nuts.. the same issue keeps coming back. I usually let my mechanic deal with all my bike issues.. but it just seems it can't be sorted.

What happens with my bike is, if im riding with my headlights off.. its fine.. then as soon as I turn my headlights on while my bike is still going.. i see my RPM drop 2-4K and then back up to where it was before.. as soon as I come to a stop my bike stalls. With the headlights on.. none of my lights work, the neutral, oil, blinkers dont work.

Any ideas on what I can do to fix this.. looks like I have to fix this one myself .. and I only had my bike back for almost a week ..

How new is the Battery and have you checked the charging system? The FZR line of bikes DO NOT Like Weak Batteries.

Using a volt meter, check while off, should be about 12.5v. Check while starting and while at idle, should be a little bit lower, around 11.4v-12v. Then check at 3.5K rpms and should read around 14v.

There isn't much to the charging system. Let me know how you make out.

Yep, as the dude said, check your battery. One guy i spoke to when i had similar problems (he has a fair bit of experience with fzr250s) said the batteries are only really good for a year or so - i guess cos they're so small. A new battery (for $50) and a bit of a clean and contact spray on all the connection points in the electrical system (just follow the wires under the seat from the battery) seemed to fix my problems.
But even if everything is right you may not get 14V at 3500rpm with the 250, if you can get 13-14V at 5000rpm i don't think there's any major issues with the charging system.
Also check the wattage on your headlight globe(s) - having too powerful a globe will drain the battery which i think happened to grendal at one stage...

Weirdest thing.. rode it today.. everything worked fine. tested the battery.. all at the right voltage.

Then later in the day.. everything shite itself.. everytime I turned the headlights on RPM hits 0 and my bike turns off.. so i left headlights off and the RPM randomly drops and I had to keep my revs up so high just to keep it going... and the damn constant backfires!

Any1 got any more ideas ? I m going talk to a mechanic to check out what we can go through.

have you checked the charging system (as suggested above)? Could also be a connector issue - have you checked to make sure the connectors on your battery are secured well?

As Boz stated, check your windshield wiper fluid.

Check the ignition connector, battery terminals, all fuses, headlight switch, altenator and starter connectors and connections to ground (earth)..... In other words any place 2 wires or more wires are connected and can be taken apart and cleaned. You can then rule that out and start on tracing wires and checking resistance. lol

I know that is not what you wanted to hear.
