The chain on my bike is getting filthy. Is it fine to clean it with kerosene? Should I apply any oil to it after cleaning?

There is even a nice three sided brush designed just for this situation...

Even the manual on my bike says to clean with kerosene as it has some lubricant properties, then re-lube.

I use a Bel-Ray "O"ring spray lube. It dries a white colour, so I can see if I have missed any links, and does not spatter or fling off. NO MESS. <!-- s:dban: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/th_Dancing_Bananna.gif" alt=":dban:" title="dancing bananna" /><!-- s:dban: -->

I don’t miss cleaning and lubing chains at all. A scottoiler is worth its weight in gold!

I found that chain wax works nice, and nothing gets sprayed of the chain onto your rim..
