On talking to our local suzi dealer about oil (i have been using car oil) whoops,so i bought some motul oil and filter and "O" rings.While the oil was draining i removed the tank and tappet covers-set the timming for top dead centre and proceeded to adjust the tappet clearance with my new tappet adjuster tool. All goes well and took 1.5 hours with a couple of coffee breaks. The only mistake i made due to excitment was fitting a new fuel hose (old one cracked all over) which was a fraction to small in diameter so i forced it on the pet cock and dis-lodging a section of rubber which has entered the carby causing it to flood.another job to do...Ken
Interesting little tool there Ken. Does the weight of the handle hanging down cause the rocker arm to 'hang' and drag on your feeler gauge?
Hi Murdo,Ihold the feeler gauge with my left hand and suppurt the lock nut handle with some of mr r/h fingers with slight up-ward pressure wile turning the knurled knob with what ever fingers i have left. I am aware of the slight weight on the lock nut so i set them at .001mm above the lowest spec.i have a second set of feelers and took them all apart so you are only dealing with the individual feeler instead of trying to hold the whole lot,i checked them twice after two revolutions of the engine...ken
After work i removed the carby and cleaned out the needle and seat to stop the flooding (from first post),went for a spin and all good.one issue ever since ive had the bike is when you sit on 90-100kph for about 10ks the bike seems to die so i turn the fuel tap from "on" to"prime" and the bike picks up again as per normal.New vaccuum line,air box all sealed and air box drain tube sealed.Could it be my vacuumm part of fuel tap is not copping with the required fuel supply when doing 100kph for any length of time?...ken
Hey ken, are you running an inline fuel filter? with vacuum operated gravity fed fueling any restriction can pose a problem. My zxr would die on the highway and the highway alone. the problem turned out to be the inline fuel filter I was running was too restrictive. Just something to check.
No,i removed mine last year because the internal tank filter is nice and clean,im off to a local car show/shine so i will give it another go on the hwy and play around a bit with the fuel tap as im going...Ken
The other thing to check is if your tank is creating a vacuum against it. The little breather under the fuel cap may be blocked.
Now thats a thought,i will check that as well.if i can make the bike "die" i will pull over ,take off the fuel cap and listen for a sucking noise-the same noise you here when a car is low on fuel...Ken
On our ride on sunday the bike had no fuel problems at all,might have had an air bubble when i did the test run.all good...Ken
Hi Mike,the two piece tool is easy to use ($50.00) the long handle part is like a ring spanner to loosen the lock-nut while the knurled bit sits inside the ring spanner bit and the square end sits over the actual tappet head which is square.in the kit there are 3 different sizes for a variaty of tappet sizes-i will try to take pictures but camera is not that good...ken
