After 9 years and nearly 10,000Km it was time for a service. I had been having a few things not working as they should. The temp gauge was not showing any signs of life and the swingarm bearings were getting loose. I drained the coolant and checked the thermostat, all good. I took the temp sender out and with the wires connected dropped into boiling water, no responce from the gauge. I took a wire from earth to the wiring plug and the temp gauge jumped to full, so is that working. Thinking about it later, if the sender was not telling the ECU that the engine had heat then the ECU would think the engine was cold and would be giving more fuel, bit like riding with the choke on, and that would be where my fuel economy had gone. New sender ordered and on way.

The swingarm bearings were sloppy in their bushes when I took them out. They had no lubricant and the inner hard steel bush had worn the pressed in bush in the arm. I bought some black nylon bar and machined some new bushes 0.2mm bigger. I turned down a bar to hold them straight and hammered them into the arm for a really snug fit.

After this I did the normal service things (valve clearances, spark plug, air cleaner, lube cables, change engine and gearbox oils, etc) and replaced the rear tyre that only just passed rego inspection last time. Have to sit and wait now for the postie.
