    Hello fellow CBF'ers,
I recently bought a 2006 model last October with 10,000 miles on. Generally in good order, but with a few minor issues....one being a strange cruising misfire. Cold start is normal with choke and no throttle, it warms up fine, idles fine, accelerates fine too, but just this strange cruising misfire at 50ish. My brother thinks it might be a dirty cat. What do others think?
Secondly, the inability to select neutral. I will change the oil and filter but, the digital manual suggests 20w50 oil, but as the manual is a translation from - I think - Spanish, perhaps the hotter climate warrants a thicker oil. What is the general practice amongst you all, seeing as I live in the UK? I thought perhaps it should be 10w40 as my Virago runs on that. Apart from that, I'm enjoying it, it's a nippy fun machine.

Heres the oil recommendation from the CBF owners manual

As for the misfire I would look at the plug cap (for corrosion) and the lead and possibly the coil breaking down when everything "heats up"

I have found every bike Ive ridden that neutral is hard to select .... Ignition on , engine not running usually works better for me

Also many bikes usually have an indent on the gear shaft to align with the selector for optimum operation

10w-30 would be more suitable for the cold climate.
It depends on how hard the clutch has been used/abused in that it may have worn the clutch basket fingers making the plates hard to separate and causing dragging making neutral hard to select. I like to pop the gears into neutral just before I come to a stop.
The misfire could be many things but I would suggest trying simple things like a new spark plug, checking all filters are clean (including the one in the tank and behind the needle seat) and you are getting full fuel flow to the carb.

    Hello 'GreyImport' and 'Murdo',
Thanks for your replies....it seems these engines can use different grade oils...

    CBX250_Oil.png

This is from the 'pdf' file I bought for the bike. As I have a load of 10w40, I shall use that...our climate here in the UK is warming up....we hit 40c in 2022 for the first time ever...As for the misfire, more food for thought and for the neutral issue. Thank you again 'GreyImport' for your generous upgrade...
Just as a side point, my 250 has the three optional extras offered when the bike was bought in 2006, namely centre stand, front screen and Top box.
