Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and I hear lots of positive feedback of this forum about sharing your great knowledge on 250cc engines.

I recently bought a 1980 CB250RS. The bike is great overall except I found one area leaks engine oil from a "screw" in the cylinder head cover - just above the spark plug. Has anyone seen this and advise me how to fix it? Thanks! See photo below ...

To be honest the first thing i would try is popping down to bunnings and getting a new screw for it, current one might be slightly worn or damaged. Other option is you could try something like what this guy does in this video

Does it have a slot or something to take a driver? is it 'loose' ?
Could just be a casting plug

if nothing behind the screw to be held in- undo screw and wrap thread with teflon plumbers tape.white is cheapest and is crap, yellow is gasfitters and is the best or pink is the middle grade.wrap on thread and not the end . wrap on in direction thread screws in so it does not unwind.do not over tighten as to strip thread. also works well on sump plugs.

    IT IS NOT A SCREW!!!!
It is the end of the rocker shaft for the exhaust rockers.
Two fixes; clean around the shaft end with thinners and cover with silicone.
; remove tank, remove close by head stud and withdraw the shaft about 12mm to remove the 'O' ring and replace with new one. The shaft end has a screwdriver slot to allow you to rotate the shaft to align the slot to allow the head stud to fit through.
Oh, and welcome to the site.

O-RING is then the more permanent fix.

Thanks everyone particularly to Murdo! I browsed again the web sites and looked through 250rs spec. The O-ring needs to be replaced. However I will apply silicone first to stop the leaks (temporarily) while I can ride to a workshop to get it fixed properly.
