    Hi guys,
I am clenaing out the carbys on my 3ln3 and when I got them apart the needle in each carb has different amounts of washers under them.
I have found info that from the factory the circlip should be on the middle setting (3of5), but are there meant to be metal washers under it? or just the plastic one? Mine has one of the plastic washers on each, but also a mix of stainless ones above and below on each. Any help would be great <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

It should just be a plastic washer and circlip on each needle. On some other bikes the only way to adjust needle height was to shim them with washers but the FZR shouldn’t need them. I have no idea why they are different. The only reason I can think they would be there was to over compensate for something else that is dodgy.

Thanks heaps for that, I didn't think the other washers needed to be there, but I just wanted to make sure before I went to the effort to put it all back together.
    Thanks again!!

If your bike is running fine I would leave them there, unless of course you are going to fix the problem they are covering up.

The needle size and position affects the mixture from 1/8 to 1/4 throttle position. The further the needle moves toward the rear of carburettors the leaner the mixture in the above throttle range. You shouldn’t have to worry about needle diameter.

Yeah there was a problem, it was not running well at low rpm/load/throttle conditions, I suspect leaning out. The circlips were all at the leanest setting with the washers in there, so I removed them and set the circlips to the 3rd notch as they should be, the idle mixture screws were all over the place too, probably cause of the different amount of washers on each needle, so I have set all back to default and will see how it goes once I get the tank back on (Have to fix rust issue first!)

I actually pulled the carbs off due to a massive loss of power suddenly the other day, and found that one of the circlips had come off and the needle was floating!!! Luckily it didnt damage anything else and all the washers stayed put!!!!

Another question while im here, I know the 2 breathers off the front of the carbs just hang there not connected to anything, but are the two vaccum looking hoses hanging off the rear of the carbs supposed to connect to anything??

    Thanks again.

Nah they just clip onto the back of the airbox but don’t go anywhere. Sounds like you have it all under control. Fingers crossed.
