All though I have a ignition switch which I got second hand it looks tired compared to the rest of the bike so I was wondering if the Emgo Ignition Switch Part Number 40-80610 works with our bikes, I can get one of these delivered for about $80 delivered or should I just go for the genuine part from Partzilla for about $200.00 delivered?

For me , i alway's like to use O.E part's , they bolt straight up and just plug the loom together and it will work / it will look correct / fit where it should / O.E part's are usually made very well back in the day's and will last another twenty odd year's (unless your very rough with them).
But the price difference is out there though for the O.E part.
If you go with O.E or aftermarket , you'll have to rec code the other lock's so they all match.

I would prefer OE, the switch i have works OK it just looks old, everything else on the bike looks as new, happy to get the tank and seat locks re keyed to suit just unsure which way to go feel I have already spent enough getting the bike to where it is. The Emgo looks identical just not sure of its switching diagram and cant find it on the web. Worst case I'll go the Partzilla but have no experience of dealing with them.

It might be worth a shot or it may be wasted money. In my experience using cheap Chinese copies (not sure on the emgo) sometimes the pin outs are different and you end up have to swap the electric side over. Works okay when the problem is with the barrel but not if the electric side is the problem.

Genuine is guaranteed to work as long as it is the right part.

You'll have no issue's using Partzilla. There really good to deal with , i even have my own contact when i was chasing part's.
If your unsure and need help with anything on there web site , they have a live chat service this will take you to the rep's that know where stuff is.
If you need help , just PM and i'll ask my contact for help.

It all add's up very fast when your rebuilding / restoring a bike , if you plan to keep it for good , purchasing O.E stuff will last a very long time , but that's up to you though what you want to spend.

Can you show a picture of your ignition switch , with Yamaha ignition switch's , you can purchase new facia decal's , i have one fitted.

I have found the new Decals for it online and did consider that option, the ignition switch that is on the bike is a bit fiddly to lock and unlock, is fine with Off-On so thats why I'd like a new switch rather than the Decal.

The Bike is perfectly ridable as it is this would be the final touch.

I intend to keep the bike and take it out in the warmer months for a run, it will only be used a few times a year.

Emgo's decent stuff, used their stuff for 40-yr. Some considerations:

    1. incorrect pinouts. Just measure and re-pin as necessary.

    2. missing anti-theft circuit. Get 100-ohm resistor and solder in-line on grey wire

Thanks for that, have 100ohm resistors at work. Cheers for that I'll order one.

Looks good, matches what I have for EX250J. Some of them loops back from fusebox.

    You have no Park?
The resistor on the original key switch is soldered between the white wire and an additional NO contact in the "On" position with the grey wire the other side on the contact.

No park on U.S. bikes. Have them in other markets.

Yeah, common to bridge power-terminal to grey wire inside switch with resistor. I prefer to add it in-line on grey wire on harness side of connector. Then I can use any ignition-switch I want. Or keyless for track bike or kart.

All in and working soldered and heat shrunk a 100 ohm resistor in the "Yellow" which takes the place of grey. Its wonderful not having to jiggle the key around to get it to lock and unlock.
