Anyone got the specs for the Cam chain on a 3LN. I think my one needs replacing so was just going to buy some bulk chain to do so. Or is the chain spec unique to Yamaha? Cheers
emm honestly i didnt get what u mean u mean the cam chains that are 2 one for the air valves and the other for the fuel valves ?? if thats what ur tlking abut i never heard abut need to replace them they dont get damaged y u need to replacing what they are suffering from?
Yes...its the chain that makes the little valve things go up and down or the airy and petrol things as you so well described.
I have a used one. Its still attached to my wrecked motor. You can have it if you can free it from the engine without damaging it. Located in Sydney pm for details and/or mobile #

The cam chain will need replacing if/when the automatic ratchet tensioner gets to the end of it's extension. The way to check if it is in need of replacement is to remove the cam chain tensioner spring (middle bolt) then remove the actual cam chain tensioner assembly (two outer bolts). Look at the position of the tensioner; if it can move futher out then the chain is effectively within servicable limits, if not then it's replacement time. It would concern me if the cam chain had stretched enough to require replacement as that would also mean a significant amount of wear had occured to the cam sprockets which would also in theory need replacing. Unless of course the cam chain has been accidentally damaged during servicing...
On a high milage motor, it is CRITICAL that a worn cam chain and sprockets be changed. I have had one actually break on a CBR. This always results in an ugly marriage of pistons and valves. Cam chains are far cheaper than a complete motor rebuild.
The only 250's that we got/get here in the States is the Kwacka 2fiddy. 600 is the smallest CBR/Yami/Zuki sportbike that we have that's modern. Well, that's not totally true as there is the Zuk GS500 and the Kwacka EX500 and the old RZ350's from the 80s'.
FZR Dude has it right. It was a CBR600F aka Hurricane. I used it for Supersport racing and had megacycle high lift cams and heavy duty valve springs. I was also spinning it to 14,000 rpm (corrillo rods and cosworth pistons). The tired cam chain I was using didn't like the extra load. Part of the reason I switched to 2 stroke bikes for the track
