I've just been checking out methods to clean and de-rust tanks and, although the one on my project is pretty good, I was wondering about storing it.
All the advice I've seen says not to do any of the methods until you are ready to use the tank. I won't be using mine for some time and I'm after suggestions to keep it in good shape for a year or so. Would you just leave it empty and sealed? Or empty and open? Or do you have a tip for filling it with something that will prevent it rusting while in storage?
    Thanks

A coating of oil on the inside should do it. Upon use again, flush with degreaser to remove

    Good question

If it was me I would spray it inside with a ton of Inox .... shake it about a bit to spread it around.
Then when needed just wash it out with petrol

In fact I think Ill do that with my ZXR tank while its sitting waiting for its return to the bike.

Any sort of oil that will leave a film clinging to the inside should help. Use a piece of cling film (gladwrap, etc) under the cap to seal the tank from air, close the tap and it will be good for years.

I read some guys were putting a coating of diesel in the tank before storing it, cant validate it though

I think I'm going to go with Grey's idea, I like the idea that I can just rinse it out with fuel and it gives me a great reason to go buy some Inox, which can't be a bad thing :)
    Thanks everyone.
