I decided that I want to spend $600 on a jacket that I love, that I know is good quality and that I know I will wear to match my bike and to protect myself, rather than have several cheap jackets many which i wont use. But i'm a cafe racer so looks are everything right :crazypilot:

$30 motorbike cover though, who can say no to that!

Back in the late 60s or early 70s when Bell came up with, "If you have a $10 head, buy a $10 helmet", that was a clever bit of marketing. There may have been some validity to the warning then as there might have been some helmets of dubious quality around back then.
However, today with more stringent regulations and enforcement, that slogan may be well past its use by date. Tests by this organisation don't seem to indicate any direct correlation between price and the level of protection or comfort.

The Consumer Rating and Assessment of Safety Helmets (CRASH) is run by a consortium of government agencies and a motorist organisation which share a common interest in improving motorcycle safety.

CRASH provides helmet buyers with independent and consistent information on the levels of protection from injury in a crash provided by motorcycle helmets and the comfort level of the helmet.

The program is funded by Transport for New South Wales, NRMA Motoring & Services, and the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).

    http://www.crash.org.au/ratings.php

For example, three popular helmets received the following scores for protection and comfort; 76 and 50, 72 and 75, and 56 and 53.
Prices for those three helmets that I found online are respectively, $99, $199 (but on special for $99) and $879 (but on special for $774).

Both the $99 helmets offer significantly more protection than the one costing about eight times as much and one of the $99 helmets is also significantly more comfortable.

The results of that organisation's tests suggest that the only way that it is true that you get what you pay for is if you accept that what you are paying for is the name rather than the protection or comfort.

The HJC helmets didn't do too good, only three stars out of five.

    One model did well.

    The HJC IS-16 scored 73.64 and 72.53.

That is very close to the top of the list.

Standards well they all have to meet them but many go above u think they make helmets for diff standards no they make one helmet to the highest standard they have to for price u r paying for wat it's made of weight padding material and ventilation if Torque were the same quality not (standard) then bike shops would stick but they don't because they won't sell as well as hjc agv shoei etc my head my choice your head your choice I've got many binned helmets on my shelf and not one is torque they will with stand a crash because they meet standards but they don't have the tech or money to develop helmets like the top brands

So I was working all day, managed to ninja in for a quick look. Scored a pair of boots, jeans, two pairs of different gloves and a jacket!

Downside. ******* zipper on the jacket is missing two teeth at the bottom.... Dammit.

    @MashtX

ALDI have a 60 day return policy, take it back and get another if any are left.

I went back and bought another pair of socks plus a waterproof top. I bought the bottoms last year.

So now I have a full set of gear. Leather top and bottom, textile top and bottom, and waterproof 2 piece. Winter and summer gloves, 2 piece thermals & balaclava. Waterproof gloves are a bit too expensive, disposable rubber gloves as a liner will be better I think.

As for helmets, I have not looked at the Aldi ones. The first Rjays one I decorated with gravel on Daruka Rd. was a better helmet than my current Rjays flip up, but was a looser fit. Still have it though and may use it for long trips. Flip up one sucks for wind noise, does not seal very well at all.

    Take it back, no problems.
I scored some gloves which I like and have been using for years and a leather jacket which once I tried it on wasn't game to take it off as goods were disappearing very rapidly. Got to the check out and it was scanned without taking it off....got in the car and drove home with... you guessed it, jacket still on. Walk in and my wife laughed...."you still have the labels attached".....trust no one.
