I'm so pleased, the purchased ones are second hand, but they have been VAPOUR Blasted, they almost look new. I know of people who do this service, but my ones are totally shot. the amount of salt they put on the roads here in the uk really bug's me.

Right, Back to work on the sad looking GSXR250....I got it out the shed today as the weather was spring-like, and made some progress. I had some really bad luck from the start!

Today was all about getting the engine out of the frame, so I could sand/prime/paint it. Sadly....the front engine mount bolt has seized in good and proper! 10435929_10204177342897176_8167007458293453929_n.jpg 10941823_10204177342537167_6866469681187772705_n.jpg 10994936_10204177343177183_1619527834089217644_n.jpg 11102679_10204177344177208_3669992171338344791_n.jpg

After much cussing I decided to leave the motor in, and try my best to just get it clean, and painted to some kind of quality.
so this is the result after a good chemical clean and a quick spray. Its not up to my standard, but allas, its all I can do. I tried everything to get the engine bolts out. heat, air, hammer, lubricants.

I could have taken my mini saw to it and cut it out in sections....but....if the bolt had totally seized into the engine alloy castings, I could have been in big trouble if anything broke...let alone, not having a spare bolt!......so I have settled for second best....I think it looks presentable.

that's enough for one day, the last photo above is the spark plug hole (No.1 cyl) AFTER a clean! they were all gunked up with sand and grit, I had to literally scrape the crud out as best I could, then flush with petrol, and various other cleaning agents, then spin the motor on the starter....then airline out....then more cleaning fluids/airline etc....its all cleaned out now, and ready to go. phew!

I think your level of perseverance is right up there with Dr. Murdo. I could never do that. It seems like every nut, bolt and piece of that motorcycle is corroded or damaged in some way.

Onwards & upwards...another good weather day....crikey! Two in a row!...

Its only taken me 4 hours to get the forks in lol......mind you, that is incorporating spray painting various bits n bobs that I couldn't spray in the cold, so it's getting there slowly, I'm enjoying every moment, its remembering where, and in what order it goes back together.

I had taken photo's of every bracket, nut & bolt etc....sadly my phone died and I lost everything, obviously not the photos posted here. (luckily) so I can refer back to here for pointers. I do have the parts CD disc, but the pictures are not very clear. wish me luck. 10351069_10204184628839320_1222266847064635770_n.jpg 11032226_10204184629039325_8259647416273848053_n.jpg 11102777_10204185395378483_2021190006083961929_n.jpg 11021249_10204185395898496_7491922525162459388_n.jpg 11017188_10204185397378533_7175094630571101509_n.jpg 1613950_10204185396618514_7419129128193863223_n.jpg
