There is a god, I have managed to purchase a complete pair of new looking carbs for the bike. £40 I'm happy
Wow, that's some serious rust and corrosion! My GJ73 was also left to rot for at least 15 years I would imagine but I guess the air isn't as salty or something in my corner of the world as it was in nowhere near as bad a condition as that. If you get hard up finding spares there seems to be lots of GJ72 parts on Yahoo Japan. I haven't had to buy anything myself yet but there are lots of broker sites that will ship stuff to you.
Just about got the plugs out earlier.....what a mess, still....I don't expect much more after what ive seen so far....I put some oil down the plug holes and put some oil in the oil filler hole, about half a litre, as im not sure exactly what's in there already. I hard wired the starter motor and covered the spark plug holes with a large cloth. then dabbed the positive to the + terminal....WHIZZZZZ she spun over very well, the compression sounds very good and tight. I only kept it turning over for 10 seconds or so at a time, then very black oil started to squirt out of the left hand side of the engine, around the front sprocket area, as I wasn't able to get around that side of the bike, where do you think its coming from? out of the clutch pin hole? (please bear-in-mind that the sprocket cover has been removed, and the clutch pin as well)
I know the later model GSXR250 has a bank of 4 carbs, your bike looks like the engine and carbs are the same as in the Across GSX250F
Yes, not sure why they decided to change the later setup to four carbs...If it's not broken, don't try toffix it' springs to mind. The more carbs, the more can go wrong surely.
More carbs = more air flow = more power, theoretically anyway haha Bike looks great, keep up the good work
I have given the original carbs to a friend of mine who is going to try and remove the three stuck mix jets with some serious heat treatment, he is also going to obtain a set of front calliper seals, so they will be useable soon. The bike generally is coming along fairly well, I have to remove the rear wheel/chain, the forks and attachments, then its out with the engine. The frame will get a total overhaul, and a new lick of paint. do I go with original silver or do my own choice (black)?
