Hiya, Anyone ever seen the radiator fan on a Suzuki Across kick in? How hot does the bike have to get before this happens? I've left my bike running while I open the gates to get into my back yard - on hot days after a 100km-ish ride - and the temp gauge climbs pretty quickly to about half way over about a 2 minute period. I figured these would be the occasions the fan would start.
Hey Brad The fan kicks in when the temp gauge is reading between 2/3 to 3/4, If you riding on longer stretches then its very rare the fan will kick in, however I was commuting on mine and stop -> start traffic would send it into the red... as the Across is a "4 pot screamer", they need plenty of fresh air coming in at speed to keep the temp under control, the fan does do a pretty good job to cooling it down. thanks Chris
Cheers Chris, Was concerned the fan may be buggered, but it's not a part that's likely to fail I'd imagine - I've probably not had it hot enough. b
Hey Brad Many bikes will simply never hear the fan come on and some do. The green coolant in your radiator actually takes the boiling point to a higher level, some over 130 . Most will kick in around 100 and promptly bring the temp down. If you are concerned check your coolant level and top up if needed. Not sure how often but you can flush your system and replenish it with coolant. Hope this help. Phil
G'day My radiator fan on my across comes on when I'm doing low speeds or letting it idle on really long red traffic lights on a hotday. Generally it rarely comes on, but when it does it turns off pretty quickly too
I know on the cbr mc22 the thermo sensor would give out. If u are really worried u can wire up ur own switch and turn it on whenever u want. I did it to my cbr an it was really good turning it on before the temp got too hot.
