Hi everyone im new to the forum so excuse my ignorance.

recently bought a 83 gsx 250 as a project to learn how to build/customise a bike.

im wondering if i can fit a bigger motor in it?

    any experiences anyone?

    Hey Steevreaction
Welcome to the forum. You bring up an interesting point re: your gsx250.
How much bigger do you envisage going, do you have a particular motor in mind.
Reason being, the chassis can handle so much in terms of torque produced by your new engine and weight????
Things to think about as you venture down this track!!!
I would talk to a qualified mechanic for some more input.
    Keep us posted mate

Not much bigger maybe a 400 or something like that. I'm more just researching at the moment cause the gsx might have a compression problem (haven't had a chance to test and do the relevant tests after that to check) and depending on that, just wondering what would be the cheapest option.

    :) thanks for your reply

    Hey Steevreaction

I did some googeling and there have been a few people who say the early GS 400 \ 450's fit with limited modication to the frame, the biggets challenge is lining up the sprockets so they chain runs true. Many did say that it is a can of worms as you have to change the electrical system to suit the new engine and that the airbox may not fit.... the other area to considor is the engineering side of things, here is Qld, our government are making it very difficult to modify anything with larger engines as they may dictate that the brakes need to be modified to suit the more powerful engine or at the very least certified by an engineer that the the stock brakes can handle the increased power.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I think I will try and stick with what I have in that case !

Here's to hoping there isn't too much of an issue with the compression !
