will a 3ln motor run on a 3ln3 cdi? basically my motor was running ok, mates 3ln3 motor started knocking and running really bad. so swapped my motor into his bike.

having alot of problems getting it going, takes ages to start and when it does it wont rev. have to hold the throttle on half or it dies. carbies are 100% have been tuned and the floats adjusted.
thinking now it may be an electrical problem, i thought it could be the cdi, was going to swap it over but the loom to his ecu is different. would it be worth swapping out the whole loom and electrics?
i swapped the little square box (must be to do with ignition) that attaches to the side of the frame next to the cylinder shaped thing and got no ignition at all.

or should i swap the stator over as it might be messing with the spark timing??

The little box is the master relay assembly, and includes the starter cut-out relay, the safety interlock diodes, and the fuel pump relay. The cylindrical thing next to it is the flasher relay. The stator has nothing to do with timing; it produces electricity. The pickup coil is under the stator cover, but unless you've somehow gotten the wires reversed, that isn't the issue either.

The 3LN1 engine should be fairly drop-in with a 3LN3 frame; certainly, the electricals should have no issues. I'd look for missed connections - clutch switch, sidestand switch, neutral switch. Are the plugs all in the correct order? They are numbered 1234, and should be installed in that order. A 1-4 swap doesn't really matter, nor a 2-3 swap, but 1-2 or 3-4 will cause problems. You may be trying to start on 2 cylinders.

With all your unplugging and re-plugging, did the coil plugs under the tank get disturbed?

i havent checked them myself as i don't have the bike with me now, but my mate says the plugs are on the right way.
i touched all the pipes on the headers and they were warm,
    haven't checked the regulator either
