AFIK all the main engine parts (cylinders, heads, pistons, rings) are the same between models, except for the cams (valve timings).

As Koma said in this thread -

It will fit and all bits are the same except for the where the head mounts to the bike frame as the frames were different between 2KR and 3LN.

Valves are the same size. Valve timing will be different if it's a non exup 2KR

no dave ur wrong abut the parts of the 3ln and 2kr fits except the frames lot of ppl think the same i had 2 eninges one 2kr and 3ln when u look at the them from outside u think they are identical when i was rebuilding the 3ln engine i compared it with the 2kr engine that was also broken parts most parts differ pistons and and connectiong rods differ valves iam not sure but i guess they are the same and same rings but the crank nd such other stuffs differ also the magnetic clock and the coil differs if they are identical inside then how its cosidered the 3ln a little bit faster than the 2kr

Dude i prefare to bring the original parts dont mix but there is some of parts that are identical but pistons and crank and ....are not one of them iam sure from it if u want me to enter in details abut it measure the both pistons (2kr & 3ln ) length or just put them near eachother nd u will find that the one of the 2kr is a little bit longer ask how is that longer pistons and same cylinders thats in a way that the extra piston length is balanced by a 2kr shorter rod in order to fit the cylinders passage means if u wana put a 2kr piston u must also replace it with a 2kr rod u cannt replace 2kr piston and 3ln rod it will not work i prefare dont mix it like that its not a cocktail juice <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> those engines are so sensitive in parts lot of parts u may think they are the same but they differ by mellimetes which lead that ur engine may not work at all or work but not normally

Same HP up to '93 although at slightly different rpm between 2KR and 3LN. Not having a parts list for either model makes it hard to compare. If the pistons have a different gudeon pin to crown distance, then the conrods will be different length to compensate. Head gaskets are the same. Bore and stroke are identical. I had ridden side by side with another rider on a 3ln and there was no difference in performance I could tell.

Not having taken either apart to that level I will have to defer to Jad's opinion..

GUY - Your local Yamaha dealer should be able to help as they do have partslist for these models
