THE STANDARD AIRBOX WAS NOT SEALING ON THE AIRBOX TO CARB HOSES DUE TO AGE HARDENING OF THE HOSES, I TRIED TO SOFTEN THEM UP IN HOT WATER BEFORE FITMENT BUT WAS STILL GETTING BIG AIR GAPS AT THE CARBS,DECIDED TO REVERSE THE HOSES IN THE AIRBOX SO THE TAPERED TRUMPET SECTION FITTED ON THE CARB BELL MOUTH, THIS MADE A GOOD AIR TIGHT SEAL WITHOUT HOSE CLIPS, DOING THIS RAISES THE FRONT OF THE AIRBOX ABOVE THE STANDARD FRAME MOUNTS SO I MADE UP SOME SPACER BRACKETS, ONLY DONE ONE ROAD TEST TO DATE WITH JUST LOW SPEED RUNNING A BIT ROUGH, I MAY TRY SWITCHING THE AIRSCOOP ON THE AIRBOX TOP SO ITS MORE FORWARD FACING, AS STANDARD ITS REAR FACING,HAS ANYONE TRIED SIMILAR MODS

My understanding is that it's rear facing for a reason - the carbs rely on atmospheric pressure to supply air to the engine. Having a rear facing scoop allows a predictable amount of pressure while providing minimum turbulance inside the airbox (as opposed to having the pressure and turbulance change with speed, as occurs with a forward facing scoop / ram air).
Predictable pressure makes it easier to tune the engine over all speeds - particularly as tuning relies on throttle input, and can't be adjusted for speed / rpm's (in the FZR, anyway).

If you've changed the seal to make it air-tight (a good thing) then you've probably affected the bike's tuning. It sounds more like you'll have to re-tune it with the airbox correctly sealed.
