Hi all!
My FZR 2KR engine (1HX) is dead..
Is it possible to replace it with engine from FZR 3LN ('96 make)?
I need this info very much. Thanks!

As has been lightly documented around here... the 2KR and 3LN engines appear to be very very similar; with only a few details like sump and oil pickup that appear to vary between models. All FZR250 engine's have a 1HX model number, which also indicates they may be almost indentical.

If i recall, there are a few mount points on a 3LN engine that aren't used on a 2KR, but other than that... it should be a matter of a few modifications (ie. oil sump & pickup), and you'd be 90% there.

One user had made a few posts when he finished doing the same thing (3LN engine into a 2KR); perhaps a quick search will turn up something.

some thing in the back of my head tell sme there is a difference B/W the 3LN-1 and 3LN-3... as far as I have heard there are some mods that you can do to fit the 3LN-1 motor into a 3LN-3... having said this the 3LN-1 is closer to the 2KR motor... call and ask Southern bike imports?? (the bigest importers out there) I belive they have done something like that...

Look on ebay.. there is a whole bike for grabs... looks cheeper than a motor from the wreckers...

Great thanks for answers! Very encouraging. Being in Samara, Russia it's hard to buy things on eBay - delivery's too expensive The 3LN engine from Japan should cost me about $300.. May be I'll be able to ride a couple times until season ends - it will sure end in mid october

Most bikes here are Russian and Japs - they ship them to Vladivostok and further by rail... So the same about parts. In western part half of the bikes are from Europe. A copy of Harley? Intresting... I know only about Ural - a copy of BMW from 30ies with opposite engine - still in production ;)

Gee a Russian Harley, reliability on wheels. Lets not forget the Lada Niva.

"reliability on wheels" - said cool ;) It's sad, but quality of our bikez (especially) and cars really sux. I prefer driving '95 make Nissan Sunny with right steering wheel instead of new Lada.. Do you have many Nivas there? How much do they cost? Here they costed $5-6...

LOL... yeah there's a few Niva's around on Australian roads.
One of my good mates used to have one... completely decked it out with an insanely large sound system (so much so that he cracked the front window!! )
As for price... i think i recall him paying $2000 for it, but that was after a respray and some panel work.

One more question.. Can I install rear tyre from 3LN (130/70) to my 2KR (120/80)?

I'd recommend not changing tyre profiles as it's only going to result in shorter tyre life as it'll have more of a peak to it. If your increasing the width of the tyre it may also give a slow tip in rate, resulting in the bike feeling a little sluggish on the flickability.
