So I was doing my fork seals and I hadn't done it before, and the new seals weren't fitting so I just took the forks themselves into a yamaha shop. The next day I get them and they charge $200 - 2 hours labour and the cost of new fork seals. The new fork seals I had (bought from same place) indeed didn't fit, apparently my 1988 FZR has 1991 forks for some reason... needless to say I'm not to happy about it. The cost doesn't sound right.

On a side note, I have an oil leak, someone on here told me it would be the oil sump. How hard is this to fix, becoz if it was $200 just for fork seals without the bike attached to the forks, them I'm anticipating maybe $800 for an oil leak?

Did you ask the shop to give you a breakdown of the $200 charge?
I think you'll find thats actually a fairly reasonable price if they've done a full fork overhaul.

    - Dismantling and reassembling the forks is ATLEAST 2 hours work. (~$60/hr = $120)
    - Fork seals ~$60 for both dust covers and fork seals on both legs
    - Fork oil ~$20

There ya go... there's $200 worth of work for the shop... and thats if it did indeed take 2 hours to do the fork legs. I know personally by the time i've finished swearing and having a drink to recover it'd take me about 2 hours per fork leg!

As for the oil leak, it's time to rip of the fairings and take a look for leaks.
If it's coming from the sump then it's kinda an odd one. More likely it's coming from either the rocker cover gasket or the oil filter.

The oil tank is exposed on the right side of the bike. So looking at the exposed side of the tank, its coming through one of the bolt holes that holds the tank in place. So whatever that means, what is the ideal plan of attack? Pffffffffffft <!-- s:???: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":???:" title="Confused" /><!-- s:???: -->

Umm... yeah now i remember this from the other thread.
Leaking sump is a bit of a weird one, as it'd require the sump to be opened again and a new gasket be put in there. Not a small job unfortunately.
