2 questions - FZR250 3ln2 manual and Carbie probs

    Hi All,

    I have been hunting around for a service manual for my 94 fizzer 250 3ln2 (b) but have not found anything. The closest I have come is messageboards discussing the lack of manuals and a few attempting to translate japanesse ones but the threads kinda just end with no conclusion of wether it was done or not. The other optin is to buy one but $130 - $150 is a lot of money for a book.

    Has anyone found one online if so where? or has anyone got one that could be scanned and posted here to download?

    My other issue is my needles and emulsion tubes in the carbies.....(groan, this has been an ongoing issue). My bike has always had a fuel consumption problem (only getting about 130ks before hitting reserve) and recently found out that it is due to the emulsion tubes being very worn so that around 7-10000revs they are allowing the fuel to pour in. After many hours at the mechanics they put it on a dyno to see what is happening exactly and the fuel air ratio was off the chart (rich fuel wise) and this was with the needles set to run as lean as possible.

    my dilema: I have been quoted around $600 just for the 4 needles and emulsion tubes and would have to pay labour on top of that as can find any support documentation to be able to do it myself.
    or
    should I go buy secondhand complete carbies for $150 - $250ish and hope to hell that they dont have the same issue. I have been told that this is common with fzr's. the other problem is I have been told that each fzr model 2kr 3ln 1& 2 all have slightly differing carbies and setups.

    I suppose my question is should I just bite the bullet and end up spending $600+ (just spent $1500 on new engine, thanks topgun honda for blowing the last! so not really wanting to spend large amounts) or should go the cheaper option but less certain path. Has anyone else had the same/similar issue and found a better solution?

    do your homework and ensure you get the right carbs for your bike... save yourself the money. Otherwise what, you take it for a service and waste $1000?

    I had a similar problem (before I sold my bike). I was quoted "around $450" for the parts (not 600) - I didn't have the money so they didn't contact their supplier to confirm the exact price.

    The needles on most sports 250's will wear out - a lot of fuel goes through a very tiny hole them and they will end up wearing out in about 40 000 k's, if not sooner...

    If you got a set of carbs from a wrecker - I would definitely check out how many k's are on the bike. If there are 20 000+ I would be suggesting that it would be cheaper (in the long run) to buy new. If there is less than that then you may be able to get a good deal. Although I would expect a wrecker to charge about $300 for a set of carbies... (I may be wrong though)

    That's my thought...

    I have an assembly drawing of the 3ln Carbs. I stole it off the Yamaha genuine parts computer down at the local dealer. All the righting was in Jap but is still good for knowing how things go back together. The 3ln has slightly different carbs to the 2kr but I would doubt that they would have changed from 1 to 3 of the 3ln family. Working on your own bike can be very satisfying and very frustrating, I never work on the bike around women and children as I tend to swear wildly while working around engines. Unless you have had experience in inline 4 carbies I wouldn’t advise attempting a full rebuild yourself. Then again everyone has to start somewhere.

    um carbs are FULLY FULLY different 2kr to 3ln shiltloads more fuel differend setup different look- man they are different!

    if it is any good to you, check out 'pats motorcycles' a small shop in wynnum (brisbane) he is a one man show but seems to know what he is on about.

    I will probably go down the wrecker option. Whilst I dont have a huge amount of experience with carbies I have a mechanic on the coast who lets me use his garage and will give tips and help out if stuck (best and most honest mechanic I have ever come across).

    marlboro: I've also got a 3LN-3, and I suspect I'm having a similar prob to you. I"m gettting only about 120kms before reserve if I'm lucky...

    as for getting a workshop manual: I've asked around too, and the answer I always get is that you can't get them, at least not in English, because it's a grey import...pretty **** I reckon.

    I'll be interested to see if you end up getting the prob fixed - let us know how you progress.
