i agree 100 percent with gray. tolerances are the machining of the moving parts. chinese accuracy is not the same as japanese accuracy.
If the importer suggested where to get it fixed then thats the way to go ..... but I suggest u make it clear its being done under warranty at no cost to you. A mechanic + engine work = $$$$$$$$
YES, ASK FOR A REPORT AND CONTACT IMPORTER BEFORE AUTHORISING ANY WORK OR YOU COULD END UP WITH THE BILL.ask mechanic to get authorisation from importer to commence work and once they authorize it is their cost including any nasties he finds.
When i spoke to the importer they said valves and cam chain would be on me since it is general service but if there is a warranty issue they will pay for it. I should ask them for a documented confirmation should I?
What risky said And its a brand new bike .... we do valves and cam chains on 20 yr old bikes Just let the authorised mechanic give u a report first
if you have bought the bike new and the receipt is less than 2 years old the work including first service is the importers cost. cam chains do not stuff up in 1300 kilometres.each megelli i have had tight valves that were set at 2 thou. 6/8 is what the importer in australia gave me as specs.
Yea you would think so but that's not what i've been told back here... the warranty is just 1 year unlimited milage and only on breakdowns. Everything else like services and general wear is on me.
if the product is faulty it is up to the importer to repair if occurs with normal use. do you have a fair trading body?
You mean the fair trading act? I am covered under the consumer guarantees act and there are all sorts of issues that i could make a claim under. The problem is the dealer has gone bust and he was not registered as a motor vehicle trader by the time I bought the bike so it counts as a private sale. There are other things i could argue but i just want to get the thing going well. If it is the starter over run cog, can the noise resonate through the top? Also when you fix it, is that for good or do they just keep stuffing up?
starter over run cog can fail and gives a ticking noise or the starter idler cog can bust out of its mount and is to the front of the starter. they have revised the case to strengthen but i got a new motor replcement when mine went. try a stethescope and go over the motor to get an idea where it is coming from.
Hey chaps, i just possibly had a light bulb light up above my head. I did not accept the fact that the noise is coming from the spark plug before but after a thorough listen i determined that it's where the noise is most likely coming from. It is just blatantly coming from the spark plug area. The plug does not have any damage on it so i don't think they put the wrong one in and the piston isn't tapping it or anything but perhaps it's pinging? If the valves are tight, the timing would be advanced and might make it ping. I notice that the louder the tick, the less power the bike has... so that might hint that my theory is right. Also that explains why it gets louder as engine temperature increases, as higher engine temperature will make the fuel ignite even earlier in relation to timing and make a ping more noticeable. Can you please tell me what plug is meant to be in these bikes? So i can check mine is right. I will also try running higher octane fuel and see if that makes a difference. Obviously will take it in to check valves and timing chain hopefully tomorrow.

Not sure how readily available Champion plugs are but the NGK equivalent should be easy enough to get
I think i have the right champ one but i just want to make sure the gap is set correct. Will look up info on the web and hopefully find the gap setting.
