So I decided to get back into the small capacity 4 four cylinders after vowing never to buy one again after I sold my MC19, so I managed to swap one of my cars for 3 88 fzr250's. 2 of them run and the 3rd is cactus which is a shame because its an EXUP model. I've already sent one of the motors to be reconditioned and the frame is going off to get power coated next week. I've been riding the other around and have noticed it's starting to get fairly hot I live out in rural South Australia so it's always hot here no matter the season is there anyway I can improve the cooling system my engine builder can fab up a slightly larger radiator for a couple hundred or I could fit a bigger one from a different bike? Will be updating this tread regularly throughout the resto may help a few people out with there own projects
Welcome. I would suggest getting the radiator professionally cleaned or maybe even get a new one from aliexpress https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesal...20190116113632&SearchText=Yamaha+250+radiator Is your fan working as should be? Measure up the 600 radiator and see how close that is. As I have put one of these FZR's together will be watching your progress.
Welcome. You've come to the right website/forum if you own an FZR...this site is littered with knowledge on these bikes. Maybe turn the 3rd bike into a track bike or drag bike when you finish your current project.
The radiator is very clean inside and I did I quick pressure test properly be worth getting the fins straightened out though I double checked the fan and yeah it does work fine but I recon it's spinning a little slow. Thank you Frankster I would turn the 3rd one into a track bike but I wouldn't even sit on the thing is a proper potato and it's been binned Lord knows how many times but it does have some real good parts eg. Suspension, wheel, loom, ect, ect Thanks GreyImport I wasn't sure if I should get the concentrate or the pre mix
Have u dug into the thermostat housing ... they can get pretty scummed up .... and from memory u can get a replacement thermostat from Tridon for the 3LN so Im sure the 2KR would be same or similar I think its this one but theres posts about it somewhere here ... just needs a slight trim to fit? https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/tridon-tridon-thermostat---tt240-180/7835.html
I might have too look into that @GreyImport I recon it's still the original one from 1988 I recon ill take the original one in and see if I can find one that's the same any idea what temperature it opens up?
Heres a post about it https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/linkins-fzr250r-3ln3.3280/page-13#post-39245 That Tridon one is 82°C .... have a look at the original as its stamped on it ... this is a pic of one from that thread and its 82°C from a 3LN3 (?)
Pretty sure that the thermostat housing just uses a large, regular shaped O-ring, from memory. Maybe buy a few different sizes and test the fit? Should be cheap enough.
I have had no problems with anything I have bought from them so far. Postage time is around 2-3 weeks.
Yea the rubber ring that fits around the thermostat is the seal https://www.cmsnl.com/products/thermostat-assy_46x1241000/#.XEFnGNszar0 Heres one I just pulled apart ...
