It turned out be to 28 bikes , lots of Triumph’s, 3 Honda’s, 2 bultacos and few Yamaha dirt bikes , and a few scooters to boot Shed is quite full now
I’ve changed the reg/rec on the ZXR, the reading on the battery was way below 13v, and the voltage off the alternator was a healthy 25v @4000rpm so I guessed the thing in the middle was the issue. Worked ok for 5 minutes... Absolutely no effin’ clue what’s going on, but it would rev up happily beyond the 14k on 1st gear off a traffic light and then in 2nd wouldn’t even drag itself up to 10k. Then almost stall, then idle it for a while and it would work ok for a second....
Does it rev cleanly in neutral and not moving? If the carbs are not at airbox pressure, you will experience bogging and loss of power the higher your speed. Check the air lines from the fresh air valve to the airbox, and from the air valve to the carbs.
At times. If I leave it idling for a while and then open throttle it will, but just once. A couple of minutes more and back again all good. It’s friggin weird, I cannot point at anything right now. Just took the airbox out to check if everything is well connected and at place. It’s driving me nuts!
Mm ok. Would choke help with that? Now it won’t even idle, throttle just stalls it and the only way to rev it up is choking it.
Open the drain screws in the bottom of the bowls and see if you get a good flow for at least 1/2 litre into a bucket/tin can. If only a slow or dribbly flow the you will have to investigate why. Fuel in tank, fuel coming out of tap, fuel going into carbs, etc.
I have been searching tonight for sprockets to suit the SRX and I am drawing blanks all round.. Standard on the SRX250 3WP is 428 chain and 17 / 50 sprockets... the original SRX250 51Y had 14/43 with 520 chain... Problem I have is that I am using the FZR25 3LN1 wheels so I need an FZR250 rear sprocket for 520 chain with either 44 or 46 teeth and the original SRX sprocket wont fit the drive hub on the FZR wheel. Depending on the final drive ratio I want as they are slightly different between the 3WP and the earlier 51Y. I would prefer to go to the taller gearing especially with the 350 engine in it as it will have plenty of go off the line and will easily pull higher gearing. None of the rear FZR sprockets I could find were low enough on the teeth to suit and it was hard finding them to suit 520 chain... I can get a really good 3WP sprocket from Japan (used) but nobody goes a 17T 428 front sprocket for the SRXs50 engine.. Its doing my head in right now...
You dont want to go 428 pitch ? If you look up the JT part number for the FZR250 it also fit's a few other bikes, some FZR400's, XT250's, TZR80, TZR125, TDR125... JT rear sprocket 46T 428 $33.12 inc delivery https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Rear-Sp...=item1c9b319b0d:g:DhUAAOSwdGFYpt3b:rk:11:pf:0 JT rear sprocket 47T 428 $39 inc delivery https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/JT-Rear...h=item4d7a4f4767:g:4TcAAOSwiJJbc7V5:rk:5:pf:0
For the rear you can buy sprocket blanks and just machine the holes. That is how we use to do it in the olden days.
Problem is I can’t get a 428 pitch front sprocket to suit the SRX250. If I could get one at 17T that would eliminate all the issues but I can’t seem to find one. Maybe I will have a look at the blanks as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
After downloading the JT catalogue and searching through it, I came up with a combination that will work for me. The standard geared SRX250 51Y (which is the gearbox I have) uses 14/43 520 sprocket & chain. As mine will be a 350 it will be able to handle slightly higher gearing so I can go with a 14/41 520 sprocket & chain combo. The rear sprocket is a JTR846.41 in steel from the UK. I have a front sprocket in really good condition which is a 14T 520. Not sure what I would do if the front sprocket is no good as they are out of production.. I guess someone somewhere would make them.. Thanks for the direction to head in with the rear sprocket @my67xr

Yep, lots of choice for 14 and 15 tooth for 520 chain but nothing I could find for 428. I have loaded all the info on Standard 51Y, 3WP and what I want to use with my rear tyre etc into Gear Commander and it looks like 14/41 will work the best Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Took the carbies out, set a bucket under them and followed Murdo’s instructions. All carbies bled half a litre or so of petrol, a constant drip in all four. Since I got them on the bench I took the bowls out, checked the floats, they look ok and the bowl was free of gunk or else. Put everything together, sounds better and performs a bit better but still wants to stall once I’ve revved it up properly. I’m running out of ideas....
A drip is not enough, should have a continious stream like a little boy piddling from the bowls. What about the flow from the tap?
Unlike an older man struggling with skirts or a dribble. Not that I would know of course. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Hahaha ok ok, I get the metaphor! Yea, it’s a constant dribble, not drops. Also steady flow from the tank. Next thing, vacuum valve which, other than cleaning it and looking at the external appearance of it, I don’t think I can test if it’s OK in anyway, can I?
